Introduction to Wi-Fi Antennas

Cyber Weapons Lab, Episode 148

For hackers and pentesters just first starting out, figuring out how to pick the right Kali Linux-compatible network adapter can be a cumbersome process. Many of these adapters have swappable antennas, some of which specialized for increasing range and performance. Using a high-gain omnidirectional antenna, panel antenna, and parabolic grid, on this episode of Cyber Weapons Lab, we’ll compare Wi-Fi signal strengths for each.

I have been asking Network Security Pros. on how to increase signal on the wireless wave but couldn't find any better results, but finally got answers from Kody.
Infact... Kody is one of my favourite tutor on youtube who provides outstanding contents to his students. And guess what, you will hardly find this Wifi Antenna Boosting tutorial anywhere else on youtube.

Get out of my head.... I was just about to buy an Alpha AWUS1900 and couldn’t decide on the antennas.

Signal strength in dBm not percent (dBm is strength relative to 1mW) . Every 3dB is twice the received signal strength. I used a home made wi-fi antenna years ago before it was common to have your connection password protected (around 2004). I got free internet for over a year from a factory across the street (about 30m distance), and played games with my neighbours PC's - dropping (non malicious - but humorous) files into the windows shared folders. I used a bow-tie style antenna, and had a good connection over the relatively short distance.

This video is still useful. Im prepping my MSSP for a small client pen test and wanted a method so that i could be far away off cameras and still MITM. This is great info!

Does Alfa make a nice 1000 mW 11ac adapter with monitor mode? Injection?

I've got a large parabolic 2.4 GHz dish antenna similar to that Alfa one and also a nice handheld forked Yagi that would probably look k-rad on a rifle stock as a futuristic weapon of sorts (of course the back lobe radiation probably wouldn't be very healthy to have your head around for long at elevated transmit power levels 😵).

interesting... I was thinking of making a diy yagi earlier with a Pringle’s can you see how it worked.

Btw... I was using the same ghost in the shell wallpaper until a few days ago. I wonder how many people are gonna pick up on it since it’s pretty well hidden

I love your channel and I love your website too! I have dedicated to spend my time during this quarantine to learn ethical hacking. I really hope you could make a walk-through series to hacking from a beginner’s perspective to an advanced level. This channel specifically would do a great job if you guys created a tutorial series for ethical hacking!

Why wouldn't you list exactly what you're using as a demonstration in the video? Those links are to products that are all different except for the dish one.

You said that your adapter needs to be compatible with Kali Linux. I understand that you're using Kali, but you really just need your wireless card to be airmon-ng compatible. Since airmon-ng can be installed on other distros, this would technically work with any Linux distro, provided you have the drivers. This includes Ubuntu, Kali, Mint, Arch, Manjaro, Gentoo, RHEL, whatever.
