Is T3 supplementation (liothyronine) in a small dose while reducing T4 supplement appropriately a safe therapy for people over age 65? In an online interview of Antonio C Bianco MD, who is a thyroid expert at University of Chicago and author of a book promoting combined T3+T4 in certain patients with persistent symptoms while on T4 alone, he said he doesn't give this combined supplementation to people over age 65. I presume he's concerned, as other doctors are, that T3 supplementation may increase the risk of atrial fibrillation and osteoporosis. But a 17-year observational study in one city of Scotland didn't find any additional risk of atrial fibrillation, CVD, or fractures for patients taking long-term T3 with or without T4 supplementation. On the other hand, a 2022 published Korean study found an increased risk of heart failure and stroke in patients on T3 for more than 52 weeks. It seems to me that this is an unsettled question. What do you think?

Really good video, Adele. I took notes to present to my doctor at the next visit. I had my thyroid out in 2006. All my tests (all these years) come back normal but I have all the symptoms you talked about. Im now working with a new endocrinologist and hopeful that I’m moving toward resolution. I will be watching all your videos. ❤

I have a 45:1 rT3 to T3. I’m fat and I don’t eat much. And no one believes me and no one will prescribe T3. And I have antibodies.

I had TT in 2019, my medical history is cfs, fibro, ulcerative colitis, I was put on T4 after TT within 5 days this drug worsened my colitis, I found out after several months it contained lactose 😮.
GP changed to lactose free, (teva) no real change, still had loose bowles with cramping and inflammation in small and large intestines.
GP told me to persist as side effects would go, but my bloods showed persistent hypo my T3 was very low.
After 14 months I'd had enough, never saw endocrinologist as covid hit😡
GP sought advise from endo and I was put on T3 only therapy.... But the first lot had LACTOSE in🙄 same gut issues, I saw the problem and immediately got gp to change me to lactose free (teva) brand.
Unfortunately this as also never worked, as I was still having gut issues, but now my T3 was just within range but my TSH was well out of range, again hypo.
This as gone on since 2019 with this endo chopping and changing me from T4 to T3 hoping to get a different out come, not addressing the the real cause, which I think is malabsorbtion /conversion due to diarrhoea.

I saw her last month to again convay my concerns, but funnily enough I don't feel hypo, never have, I feel hyper as I did when I was graves thyrotoxicosis.

I'm seeing a parathyroid surgeon because I've been diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism, I had a US scan in 2022 which identified a 6/7 nodule on the left, sent for F18 pet scan in 2023 which showed a mass of (14 x7 x 21) on my right side, after fine needle aspiration it was determined to be thyroid tissue 😮( full thyroidectomy in 2019 due to graves thyrotoxicosis)

I gave this endocrinologist all this info with my last blood TSH of 11.59, she told me she didn't want to bother with me, and seeing as I'd seen this parathyroid surgeon, why didn't I just go to her 😮.
This endocrinologist was extremely rude, I explained this person who I'm under for my parathyroid is a SURGEON not an endocrinologist🤦‍♀️ and OK if you won't treat me, put me over to someone that will.
She just told me to leave and find my own endocrinologist 😂
This ladies and gentlemen is our NHS today 😡😡😡😡
