The last time I went to the museum I had an interesting experience in the museum shop. I wanted to buy a big statue of Aphrodite. Last one we have, not for sale, I was told. Okay, I said, what about this statue. Sorry, last one we have, not for sale. Not a single of the bigger statues was for sale! The museum shop essentially is the same as the museum: everything is just on display. Socialism at work, methinks. But I can order them, I was told. Takes between 3 to 6 months. Maybe. Can't really tell you... I checked the website because I am going to Athens for a few days and there is a telephone number but no email. They really, really want to keep the nice stuff for themselves in that museum. At least I had 5 gyros in three days during that stay!
