Ok so I worked at McDonald’s in the late 90’s. Hot fudge came in a heavy duty bag that we sat in the bin (before “made for you”) to heat up. Totally believable based on how thick it was before it was warm.

There are quite a few brands that make hot fudge sauce - it comes in a jar that you can get at most any grocery store. That is what McDonalds uses, not frosting. BUT, still a fun DIY to melt frosting. You could do a lot of different flavors.

2:56 so, Smucker’s makes a Hot Fudge sauce. It’s the same people who make Smucker’s jams and jellies. The hot fudge sauce is usually in the same area where the ice cream cones are - in the grocery store. It’s is the exact same product that McDonald’s uses for their hot fudge sundaes. Not frosting. Trust me on this. It’s going to cost you the same as the frosting and it’s going to taste better. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

This was such a fantastic video. My only confusion was why he didn’t use his home made McDonalds soft serve creation from the sundae in the McFlurry. Probably could have, but was following another recipe. Might have been even better!

it's because hershey's syrup and hot fudge are different things..you can also just buy hot fudge, which will actually taste just like mcd hot fudge because that's what it is lol
and hot fudge and frosting are also not the same
the soft serve ice cream also has about 1/2 the amount of milkfat as regular ice cream does, which is why they can't and don't call it ice cream. the same base is used for all of their soft serve products - cones, sundaes, mcflurries, shakes, etc

I don't think anyone ever thought Herseys was in the McDonalds sundaes because it's very different w/ a very different taste - Herseys is chocolatre syrup, McDonalds uses hot fudge not syrup.
