If it isn't pro-life, at least it shows clearly that the fetus is already a human life. In that regard is totally pro-life.

Same with twilight. Twilight made being a mother so beautiful and it even showed the pressure of the father to get rid of the child to save his wife, but the mother standing her ground and rallying people around her to protect her. Reading it really enforced my being pro-life as a teen.

The movie itself was quite bizarre to me, but I absolutely loved that the baby in the womb was her own character and they treated her with respect.

As for being Pro-Life? It isn't Pro Choice, in that not once does the idea of killing the baby is ever brought up, even though there's "reason" to do so (in that water is scarce and the Fremen might not want to raise a non-Fremen baby). And Paul Atreides (the main character and the baby's brother) does seem to care deeply about making sure his sister will be ok once shes born, and he has dreams/visions of his sister as an adult. So given the mystical foresight/future sight elements, its strongly implied that the baby is already a person, and not just a clump of cells.

So I guess certain Pro Choice harpies would get mad at the story?

The film literally starts with beautiful, beautiful footage of the fetus in utero. It was a powerful choice and not one that I think was made lightly. So compelling, bc not only is she a character and has dialogue and personhood, but they SHOW her!! It was shocking to say the least but so exciting to see

I'm watching it today. Just showing the baby in the womb and ascribing it spiritual powers like telepathy with the mom is pro-life in itself ❤ 👶 👩‍🍼

I've been into doing since I was a child in the 80s. I have read all the original books. Frank Herbert clearly believed that a child in the womb is a full human being already. But I don't know that he would be pro-life if somebody asked him. Too bad he has passed away and we can't get clarification from the author.

I would love to see a full video reaction/review from you of this movie. It is amazing, and it covers values and tropes that we used to explore in the 80s and 90s but never do now. The family values are something I sorely missed and I think they touch upon it here.

Hey that's the boy/young man from Willy Wonka!!
I haven't even seen the first movie because of all the propaganda crap that's in them now. But now the second one has me piqued.

The movie is so good, but what caught my attention was the baby and how life is pictured as something that gives a purpose, and also the mosaic aspect that is profoundly inserted in the story. Grandiose and far away from the superficial stuff released recently.

It is true what you say about the baby, but I have to say that I was not overly impressed with the movie.

Yes and no. Yes it acknowledges the baby is an alive human being, but unlike godzilla minus one, sanctity of life isn't the central focus.

yeah the original has the girl like a 4 years old. it’s important and intentional they chose to show a fetus is a human being progressively developing and having intimate connection with mama

Yes! The baby also communcates with her brother. My husband and I loved the movie. You need to watch the first one by this director to understand what's going on.

Watched the film first weekend, loved it. Don't know that I'd call the film "overtly pro-life, " but it DEFINITELY treats the unborn child as a character of her own, including images of her, and lines like "your sister says she loves you." There's also a part where Jessica does something risky, and folks are horrified afterwards to realize she's pregnant, implying they're thinking, "no WAY we would have let that happen had we known."

I really enjoyed this aspect of the movie and how it highlighted the development of a baby in the womb and the mother/child relationship.

I don’t know about this, the movies are based on an 80’s book and those scenes do apear on the book, I don’t think the dead author did it with that intention, it’s also really common on fantasy like books were characters have sort of psychic abilities to connect with the baby (if there is one) even before they’re born and like have small meaningful conversations with it.

It’s a movie that has nothing to do with the abortion argument. Stop trying to make every single thing related to it just to “prove your point.”

That doesn't mean that it's prolife

I don't get why this would be againt pro-choice, or why any footage that shows unborn children are. A choice shouldn't be made blindly. It should be made consiously, not disregarding the consequence: ending a life. It should never be belitteled or taken easy. Yes, this is a terrible choice that no one should have to make, but if anyone does, they should never lie to themselves. A movie that shows a living creature doesn't exaclty mean anything politically. If you need to close your eyes before the biological truth in order to hold your beliefs, your belief is flawed. ---- All serious things aside, I really liked the movie. The previous one was a little boring but this one really got me.
