Fortunately, many entertaining cars still exist on the new market for 2024. Today, I will rank the ones I have driven from the least to the most fun!

Thank you, Midwestern Automotive Media Association, for gathering most of the cars for today's video at the MAMA 24 Spring Rally (and 23 Rally)!

To make it clear, this list is comprised of cars that I have driven enough to evaluate! Which is why there are no Porsches here or several other notable driver’s cars. Thank you for giving me some solid recommendations for other cars to add to the list😎 Some of them will be reviewed this year...

After owning my ND Miata for the last seven months, I cannot imagine an affordable road car that's more fun.

Well, being a GR86 and a MX-5 ND rider, I agree with your statements. More fun is just to have both in your garage and have the luxury in the morning to choose which one you like better for the day 🎉

Had my GR86 for almost 2 years now and my god it still brings me smiles everyday. It’s my daily to work and I take it on road trips and when I travel 12 hours for college too. It’s been fantastic to me, it’s comfortable when I want it to, has enough space for me to pack my stuff to college/ take it on road trips and come back with more stuff. Overall it’s pretty practical for someone like me. And it’s always fun too which is the most important part. Yeah it’s not the fastest is thing but neither is the Miata and yet it gets more praise than the 86/brz. It’s fun around town, banging through the gears and still staying around the speed and it’s even more fun taking it around corner whether it be in town or out of town or on the highway. I just set it at 80 on the highway and I love taking slow corners through the canyons near me like nothing. Fantastic car

It has to be fun getting to drive so many cars. Great video.

I have the BRZ because it’s perfect for the curvy backroads out my back door. And I can buy a surfboard inside.

Agreed on the Miata. However, with (also) 6'3" but with no longer a lean, mean, fighting machine physique (age is unforgiving), Miata feels cramped inside, though not as bad as the Toyobaru. Miata also has the nicest personality (as in the old Honda scooter advertisements, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda"). In other words, you do not come off as a douche, like the stupidly loud Mustang Dark Horse, or as a boy racer, like some of the earlier ones in your series. Miata is a grown up fun.

Just got a 2024 Miata club manual today 😁 just driving 30mph with the top down had me smiling. Always wanted one but held back cause of the nav screen. Now with the update I definitely had an excuse to get it lol

I like that you included the Polaris... its akin to the Ariel Atom, and KTM we can't get here in Canada. I love my NC MX-5 and I've owned older versions of the VW GTI and BMW M cars.

I owned a WRX. Shifting was always a bit of a chore. It was a great utilitarian vehicle capable of some fun with a side of practicality but it wasn’t a joy to drive unless it was destroying snow on back roads.

I bought a BRZ that I owned for 6 months. I debated the BRZ and the ND2 Miata before opting for a fixed roof. I soon realized I had made a mistake. It was fun on back roads but it requires so much effort to enjoy. And by that I mean if I wasn’t at the car’s limit I was simply in a slow car. In daily driving it was uninspiring….

…so I bought a Type R (FK8) instead. Nothing beats that manual transmission or the feel of that car. It’s still very much a FWD car though and despite Honda’s best efforts, the biggest drawback is still the FWD shortcomings you simply cannot avoid. But I loved my FK8 so much I bought an FL5 a few years later. It improves on the FK8 in nearly every way and is in my garage today. I love it. You should get behind the wheel of one. But…

…after buying the BRZ and selling it shortly after I decided to get an ND2 Miata. And it’s wonderful! My favorite car. It’s a true two seater, no bogus back seat, and you can drop the top. I wished I bought it sooner. Even now, with an FL5 in my garage next to it, I choose the ND2 9 times out of 10. The Type R has been relegated to cold days and in 5 months of ownership, only has 600 miles on it because I’d rather drive the Miata.

The Miata is an experience. It has one of the best transmissions in an affordable car in production today, second only to the Type R. And people love it! I get enthusiastic waves from everyone. Mustangs, big pickups, motorcycles, pedestrians, and more recently a shirtless dude on a riding lawn mower. Everyone goes out of their way to wave and smile at you when you’re in the Miata…it’s almost creepy.

I'll get into my Kona N and giggle like it's the first time still after a year and a half - so I'm bias 😂 those ioniq 5 N are SO sick though

I have had many cars that are faster, louder and more expensive than my ND2 RF Miata but it is the most fun of the bunch. I love my RF but am seriously considering an ND3 soft top. I used to be a sport bike rider and the Miata makes me feel like those did except it is a lot more comfortable and certainly safer. It helps to drive it defensively just as you would a motorcycle as other drivers may not be calibrated to see tiny cars. It helps that I am 5’7” and 145lbs.

I totally agree with the Top 3, The GR 86, Mustang and MX-5 truly understood the assignment of being an an enthusiast car. It's all about fun and how they make you feel, and for that and being reachable to most people, I think they are some of the very best cars on sale.

Miata and GTI for me. One to do most of the daily stuff. And the other for the weekend back roads.

We had an 18 Civic SI that developed HORRIBLE oil/gas dilution around 77k and Honda said they wouldn't help unless the car was stalling or throwing engine codes. We traded it in for a new WRX with a 6MT, and so far it has been great. Sucks because I loved the SI, we maintained it very well and it was never abused. I will never buy any Honda with the 1.5T again.

EXCELLENT review, applicable to probably 95% of us for real use. My collection happens to be different and I keep ‘em a long time yet having a short Next List has proven handy
