It is illigal to enter the country that way and under out own law bars them from applying for asylum

It is illegal to travel across without a valid passport or ticket of entry. End of. If you can get on a train without a ticket and be criminalised. You can be criminalised for entering the country illegally end of. No further discussion needed

Its irrelevant if its legal or not, point being those guilty of recreational or commercial maritime breaches of law are not shipped of to Rewanda. Its not illiegal to claim asylum though.

It's not illegal to cross the channel in a small boat but it IS illegal to do it as a economic migrant dressed up as a refugee, with no papers or way to support yourself
