Game notes:

Nearly 8 minutes into the match Paul Young took a brilliant feed from Mike Anhauser and one-timed it into the net. Less than three minutes later, Rob Williams found Rich Hughes streaking up the left wing. Hughes launched a rocket from 18 yards that was still rising when it found the back of the net. Columbia goalkeeper Gilberto Holder didn't even get a finger on it. At the 17:20 mark, Hughes took a pass from Garth Pollanais and slotted a lovely shot from 8 yards out on the left side that beat the diving Holder to the far post. With 3:11 left in the half, The Battery collected its 7th foul. Marty Balzegar took the shoot-out for the Heat, but Charleston goalkeeper Michael Compisi came up with a big save to preserve the shutout. The Battery added a fourth goal in the second half at 44:02 when Rob Williams picked up a loose ball in the box and chipped it over the head of new Heat goalkeeper Jaroslaw Zawislan and into the net.
