I've just bought two of these D-109s, Tom. The first one was for our domestic help as she doesn't know how to operate an "old school" analogue dial radio like the XHDATA D-368 I gave her. 🙂 I was intrigued by this model and decided to buy one for myself. It turns out that the D-109 is a much improved XHDATA model over the older Sihuadon/Radiwow R-108.

Firstly, the D-109's user interface is more like Tecsun's and no longer requires the silly FREQ key which you have to press first, before making a direct frequency entry. In fact, the D-109 is smart enough to tune to "15000 kHz" if you just entered "15" and paused for a few seconds. No Tecsun model has this neat feature yet.

Secondly, it has separate VM and VF buttons and you can browse through memory presets, unlike the D-808's messy memory system.
Thirdly, XHDATA has finally gotten rid of the electrical buzz when a key is depressed and the very annoying pop while changing bands (like the D-808/R-108) is now absent. No more painful pops when listening on headphones or earbuds. It's a very good radio for its price point and I see the D-109 giving much more value for the money compared to the Tecsun PL-320 or the PL-380. It's quite frugal on the 18650 rechargeable lithium ion battery too and the battery meter seems to have been properly calibrated, compared to the D-808/R-108.

Bonus: The D-109 finally remembers your last preferred display mode, like Tecsun models. The D-808 and R-108 are notorious for reverting to the temperature display mode upon turning on. If the RSSI display was your previously selected mode upon switching off, the D-109 will automatically revert to RSSI when you turn the set on again.

You'll like this one, sir! 📻😎👍
