Even though this is my first book from him, I can tell this is probably his laziest work. For people who enjoy the book so much is biting into the fact that King wanted to capitalize on Stranger Things hype. Objectively I thought it was an okay book but it 100% had flaws. (SPOILERS) The arc of Luke Ellis finding Dupray can be taken out and replaced with more sections of him interacting with his parents. The parts of the children experiencing hardship with the caretakers and the reveal of Ward A did what it was supposed to do and be disturbing (I’m 17). There were a couple of dragged out moments that could’ve replaced the time jump in the institute to further show how Luke is forming intriguing relationships with other children. Overall opinion was that it was quite lackluster and even if it fixed its flaws then it would still be above average

Spot on as always Olly!
It could have been so much more enjoyable.
I'm about to dump King like I did the dreaded Patterson. Most of his novels could lose 50-100 pages without harming the story.
