The Gauteng health department is in the spotlight once again, and for all the wrong reasons. Dr Tim De Maayer was suspended after he wrote a scathing letter about the state of the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Johannesburg. The suspension was lifted days later after a public outcry. The Human Rights Commission visited the hospital to find out why the doctor was targeted instead of issues addressed. eNCA’s Heidi Giokos went along and filed this report. Courtesy #DStv403

The CEO of this hospital and minster of health needs be fired. There is no leadership and oversight from our health department.

This is probably the situation at 99% of the public hospitals and healthcare facilities in South Africa, I know that the public healthcare facilities in my town are probably on par if not worse than the one featured in this segment. Many employees and management staff come from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, add on top of that a strong culture of classism in the country, and what you get are a lot of entitled public servants in the healthcare sector, who feel they are doing you as a patient a favor, and also look down and are prejudice to those in need of help at government facilities because they can't afford to go to private hospitals. Most of us know this, but won't say it in public because the mainstream media operates on a dichotomy of good and bad, black and white, etc, with no space for the many grey areas that are the actual cause of most of the country's problems

I couldn't stop laughing when the head of Human Rights Commission said that the health services at Rahima Noosa hospital is substandard because it is not the kind that one would receive at a private hospital. 😂😂😂😂😂This useless human rights commission is out of touch with reality. Private hospital services are paid for from patient's pocket. Human rights commission is forever reactive, always following stories that are trending, for media attention.

I normally go there for my son's medication I dislike the process of waiting for your file. However I haven't had a bad experience. And I don't understand why do I have to pay a fee of R70 when they give me my file. The medication My son is taking is helping him alot. The stuff i have meet especially the nurses and doctors are very helpful.
