How to Plant Jaffna Shallots (Ruby Pearl) Oinion- Princes of all onion Aromatic and Flavourful
Jaffna Pearl onion are rose red colour skin with Pearl like interior bulb. Very popular in culinary and home cooking in Sri Lanka, India and many Asian countries.
In other countries it call small red shallots.
They grow in clusters from are form offsets with a head composed of multiple cloves.
Some places, the skin colour of shallots can vary from light rose red to dark Ruby red. The off-white flesh is usually tinged with magenta.
Shallots are extensively cultivated for culinary uses, propagated by offsets. In some regions ("long-season areas"), the offsets are usually planted in autumn (September or October in the Northern Hemisphere).
Plant the healthy bulbs just beginning to germinate Healthy bulbs will produce large clusters and big bulbs.
In some other regions, the suggested planting time for the principal crop is early spring (typically in February or the beginning of March in the Northern Hemisphere).
In planting, the tops of the bulbs should be kept a little above ground, and the soil surrounding the bulbs is often drawn away when the roots have taken hold.
They need to have very composted soft and fertile si to produce large bulbs and Dar colour.
They come to maturity in about 6 months, summer, although fresh shallots can now be found year-round in supermarkets.
They like regular watering. Not too much watering.
These onions should not be planted on ground recently manured, especially with cow and poultry manures.
Shallots suffer damage from leek moth larvae, which mine into the leaves or bulbs of the plant. Regular observation and natural insecticide can control them.
Much the seedling as they grown.
If you use organic matters and mulching, regular fertiliser application is not needed.
Grow organic in your home garden.
Note: In Queensland, Australia, the weather is tropical. So, we grow them 3 times per year.
