I'm from Tampa, Florida, and I've never really heard people talk like this in Tampa, but it is common in North Florida. People from Tampa use the Standard American accent.

Don't neutralize your accent! It's a precious part of one's own culture

Sounds like you were in north FL! Haha! I live in South FL and we talk with the universal American accent which is the one used in California.

North Floridians are only northern in location, but they are true south😭. South Florida doesn’t possess a distinct southern, midwestern or northern accent, at least not one I can decipher as a native. I personally don’t think I have an accent nor do i think other south Floridians have one.

I'm from Tampa, Florida and I'd say her Southern Floridian accent was pretty spot on

No southern accents here in Tampa. Northerners are always surprised that most Floridians don’t have southern accents.

I’m from north Florida and the true southern accents in Florida are up here but when you go farther south orlando and down it starts to get into a mixture but there’s still a strong accent if you’re born and raised in Florida but if you move here I’m sure you’re not gonna have a strong Florida accent like how us born here will have

I'm born and raised in Brooklyn
I have a very thick Brooklyn accent, and someone said I sounded like I was from Florida..

I hope one day I will be able to distinguish all of the English accents that exist all over the world. It's extremely interesting.

I was born and raised in Florida, but my family comes from New York and Connecticut and so I have like a horrible mix. I will be in the middle of talking and then all of a sudden the 'wa' comes out and I am just like 'noo'. 🤣🤣

OMG!!!! I am from San Mateo!! My entire family helped to settle that area in the 1700’s. I’m a Tilton! ❤ How in the world does someone like you come to live in such a small town in Florida? Nobody EVER knows where I’m from when I tell them, lol. Even other Floridians!
I have been away for too long and I miss it so much. I always save my dads voicemails so I can listen to his accent❤Also, I bet you know some of my family members. I grew up on East End Road (at the very end)
WOW, what a small world.

That drawl is gonna be used a lot more in Northern Florida, where my wife is from. N Florida is more connected to the deep south, where the drawl comes in.
