Rock The Machine is a song written by Cavan, Irelands vert own Lisa O`Neill. It`s a protest song that tells of how machines are taking the place of workers, in this case down on the docks in her home town. I play it in open D on guitar tuned DADF#AD. In this tuning you can fret the four middles strings the same way as you would on a banjo in open G tuning. I forgot the first line of the song so I later recorded the right line and pasted it over. Though I have just recently discovered Lisa O`Neills music, I have become a HUGE fan. She has written some songs that have blown my mind like, Pothole In The Sky, Gormlaith’s Grieving, I`m Gonna Get Me To The Road, Neillie’s song and this one. I`m sure there are more masterpieces I havent gotten around to hearing yet. Here are the lyrics to Rock the Machine but they might not be 100% correct.

Rock the Machine - lyrics
Written By
Lisa O'Neill

i’m losing will love
my hands are soft as cotton gloves
machine has eaten up my job
my meaning, my cause
machine with the strength of a hundred men
can’t feed and clothe my children
can’t greet a sailor coming in
or know of desperation

i shoveled coal down spencer’s dock
i took you dear into wedlock
and you did bear us a beautiful flock
river rock the machine down on the docks
river rock the machine until it stops
o low liffey show me gold
like a heron i will go
o roaring liffey when you’re high
like a cormorant i will dive
and the gold will glow and i will rise
with gold enough to wind back time
with gold enough to win back pride
river rock the machine until it dies

today dear i am unemployed
before i spoke you read my eyes
i feared over nothing or no one
but i feel old and i’m so young
i miss the graft, i miss the boys
i plead for purpose in the void
time is inward ticking tighter
i wish my load was a mountain lighter

i shoveled coal down spencer’s dock
i took you dear into wedlock
and you did bear us a beautiful flock
river rock the machine down on the docks
river rock the machine until it stops
o low liffey show me gold
like a heron i will go
o roaring liffey when you’re high
like a cormorant i will dive
and the gold will glow and i will rise
with gold enough to wind back time
with gold enough to win back pride
river rock the machine until it dies

river rock the machine down on the docks
river rock the machine until it stops

Interesting lyrics, Dan! A little esoteric for me, but I got the gist before I read you description. I recently did Family of God in D tuning! First song I'd ever done in open tuning! Good job on this one!
