Overhauling My Messy Coral Frag Tank - Zoa Explosion! (Part 1)

My frag tank had a small zoa explosion…a perfect excuse to overhaul this coral mess!

As we tour around the frag tank you’ll notice a lot of overgrown coral and just a space issue in general. Overhauling the frag tank was on my list of things to do this year and it’s finally happening. Part of me wants to upgrade this tank to something way bigger but for now, a reorganization will do.

Parts 2 and 3 will be out soon. I may squeeze some other videos in between though.

Hello from WPB Florida. Glad to see I'm not alone in letting my corals go out of control in my frag tanks. I've had afew cyphastrea grow over my frag racks and favias over the egg crate. I bit the bullet and just order some frag holders(instead of using PVC) from FishofHex. The first gen are alittle bulkier, but they are stackable so you can add/take away height when needed instead of having to make new racks or cut new PVC. I tend to take on these projects late at night thinking it won't take as long as it normally does, so good on you for taking on one section at a time and planning it out.

Hey Remy. Fan from Buffalo, NY here. Kind of a novice and have only been back in the hobby for a year now. I really enjoy how relatable your videos are and really help a beginner like me out. No frag tank as of yet. Right before the covid crisis I was eyeing the 25g Lagoon as a possibility, but with the loss of work for a while had to put that on hold. Hoping in the next month or two to get some sort of frag tank going. Currently I only have a 30g AIO Cube going but am having a serious problem. I can't go to my LFS for any reason without noticing a frag that I really like on my way out. Every TIME! Just need fish food, leave with extra zoa. Noticed an aiptasia so going to grab a peppermint shrimp and spot 2 frags I like. But, they are 3 for $50 so I gotta get the 3rd. lol. Seriously, yesterday I stopped by just to see if they had fragged a yuma colony they just got in a week earlier. They had. And they set one aside incase I came in this week.
I really like that cat walk idea. Giving me ideas about keeping lower light and non photosynthetic corals. That side definitely looks a lot better. I am looking forward to seeing how it all looks once you decide its done for now. Its never really ever done, is it?
