Okay, so there seems to be some confusion about some of my comments. First of all, when I say that everyone needs to act like an adult and settle this, I'm referring to the AMPTP. I'd thought my heavy criticism of them for obstructing these negotiations would've made that clear, but people seem to think I'm saying that both sides are equally responsible. Not true. Also, regarding my comments about grandstanding in the media - I don't believe that the WGA's current statement is grandstanding. I was referring to the strikes overall and what I've seen from both unions. I understand that there has to be a media presence, but I also think that some union leaders (and particularly on the SAG-AFTRA side) have gone overboard and risk overexposure. If you've watched my coverage of these strikes since May, I have never hidden that I am on the side of labor and that I think the AMPTP is responsible for holding up negotiations. Taking one sentence out of all these videos and interpreting it as an insinuation that I think the unions and the AMPTP are equally to blame is inaccurate.

The only reason the AMPTP is saying they won't credit AI as 'official writers' is because of multiple court rulings that AI-generated works cannot be awarded copyright. Which means the *studios* wouldn't be able to claim copyright. You can bet if those rulings are ever reversed, that point will be first on the renegotiation list.

The fact that the AMPTP has not addressed the training of AI tells me that the studios are probably hard at work already doing that and are just waiting to pull the trigger on the whole thing.

The fact that WB moved Dune to 2024 makes me think these strikes are gonna go well into the fall season

I have a good friend in IATSE who has been out of work for months due to these strikes. But he's happy to wait for a good deal for the WGA.

My husband and I both work in the industry (below the line) and this strike is really hurting our family. A lot of people don't know that most industry workers have been out of work most of the year due to the production slowdown that started in the spring in anticipation of the strikes. Many folks I know have been out of work all of 2023 and it's been brutal. We still support wga/sag particularly with AI, because we all know if these greedy ceos win, it's only a matter of time before they come for our jobs next.

Hey! I'm from Brazil and work on the film industry here. I'm following your coverage of this strike with great interest, because what end up bein negotiated there will also impact our working conditions here. For sure this will influence how our union is going to behave while facing some of the same existential problems. Your are doing an outstanding job informing the public about the strike, negotiations and power-plays happening. Cheers from Brazil and thanks for the video!

I'm glad to see movement from the producers. I'm also glad to see the writers and actors stand their ground on the use of AI.

I know it's never good to feel you're informed on a given topic by watching a single YouTube video, but goddamn it Dan, I'm happy to give you that accolade,

Thank you again for your insightful, balanced coverage.

I work in VFX in Europe... and the first Hollywood projects that were awarded now are on hiatus. VFX is hard to make money to begin with. Now this will make everything way worse now. It's starting to hurt me personally. Still, this strike needs to happen. For as long as it takes to get a proper deal.

Thank you! Seriously thank you! I personally work in this industry and it’s tough being unemployed because of this. I truly enjoy your film reviews you speak pretty well so thanks for this update. I agree. This needs to end!

I'm hoping this doesn't go on too much longer. It's finally gotten to the point it's affected my job, and being industry wide, there's nowhere else to go.

We’re starting to really see the economy suffer during this in LA. As the majority of LA are the workers, no one is spending money no one is going out, for someone in the service Industry it’s been a noticeably bad summer season comparatively.

I think part of the problem is that the economics has changed in the business. Before the strike would have affected ratings on TV, which would have affected ad spend, which hits their pockets. Now people are directly paying for streaming. If people are not cancelling their subscriptions to Disney, HBO, Netflix, etc, then the revenue isn't drying up which doesn't put as much pressure on the studios to get a deal down now. I could be wrong on that front but it doesn't seem like the studios are in a big rush.

Thank you for this wonderful breakdown of the BREAKDOWN in the negotiations. Ugh. It was so encouraging to hear that they came together to talk/negotiate on each other's points. Then when you hear that this is a FINAL offer, just take it and end this...I'm glad they didn't and am hoping for a return to the bargaining tables in the near future.

It is good to see "some" movement and concessions were made by the AMPTP, but minimal/NO movement in the most important areas of AI, Writer's Rooms and Residuals.

Again, thank you for helping us understand this process.

Thanks for all these breakdown of the situation Dan! I know you don't love it, but I always enjoy when a little bit of "Movie Fights Dan" manages to slip out every now and then.
