That's why we have flashlight mounts on most of our rifles and our shotguns. They arnt expensive at all. U can get some kits online for like 40 dollars. They keep ur hands free for loading and unloading.

Wow! Neat torches. We know we have our version of badgers around here - caught one on wildlife cam, but not in our field - just the other side. Not seen them in person, but a deer was run over a while back and we reckon the badger dragged the body across the road, through a hedge and ate the body in the field next to ours. They might be small but they are very strong and, like your badger, the claws are strong. At night our birds are behind electric fencing, mainly for the foxes, but keeping them badger proof too. The run might be fox-proof, but I gather the badgers will dig through the wire cage easily.

Most badgers are mean, mean, mean and will take on a brown bear to keep a kill! You did just right with the light.
