CARIBOU - Like I Loved You

From my album 'Suddenly' out now on City Slang and Merge :

Lyrics:
Sometimes it’s all too much for me to hide,
When everything gets twisted up inside,
And then I wish that you were there by my side,
But still I try.
If you find someone else,
I’ll be glad for you,
I have to stop myself from thinking about the things you’ll do,
But I can’t help it, the things I think just might be true, I try.

Does he do the things to you that I want to?
Does he love you like I used to do?
Do you ever miss me like I miss you?
Don’t you ever want me too?

Does he do the things to you that I want to?
Does he love you like I used to do?
Do you ever miss me like I miss you?
Don’t you ever want me too?

Has to be one of the best songs of 2020

the arrangement NGL sounds like a lost 2002 taty track or any late 2004 R&B feel and with all the tape warping makes me cry

Friend of mine said this sounds like Ride With Me by Nelly and now I can't unhear it.

If you want to go and take a ride with me
We 3-wheeling in the fo' with the gold D's
Oh why do I live this way? (Hey, must be the money!)

0:25 Man, I love that warbly bass. Not sure if that's how you describe it.. Don't recall ever hearing a bass like that in a song like this.

I love the entire album (never come back is an anthem) but i'm really fascinated by the melody starting at 1:17 or so. It feels like the music itself is disintigrating. Anybody knows why? It sounds like dissonance or a reverse chord but I'm not sure. I observe some kind of progression till it gets there though so maybe it's just a weird tonality?
