Real graphene batteries. Finally!

An unboxing of real graphene batteries. These cells are 100% graphene, no RGO, no bullshit. Plus, some data from experimental batteries we tested, and some of what I have been up to since the last video.

Words are cheap. Please show us some load testing.

"I did a little bit of this and a little bit of that, then I left the country and did a talk and did a little bit of this and that, but it is what it is". You're right; and what it is is incoherent rambling. I do like the way you tap the batteries with your fingers over and over throughout the whole video though. I learned so much from you doing

So now it's 2021. Where you at with these Batteries now? If these Batteries are worth buying now, where can they be bought and for how much? Are these Batteries a direct replacement for the 18650?

You might want to check your comment about the 'C' rating. Turnigy is currently selling Graphene batteries (for RC hobby items) that have C ratings as high as 65, 90 and even 130C (Burst mode) so 6C is nothing - even Li-Poly batteries can do 10C or more easy. Very interested in the 18650's though and would like any info on where these are or will be available.

i thought graphene battery's would have many times the capacity considering the amount of surface area a one atom layer of graphene could provide but i am thinking it will be more like a capacitor than a conventional battery with a core

So what I am gathering is that these graphene-based cells should offer roughly the same energy density as the most energy-dense Lithium technologies we currently have but offer faster charge and discharge rates. We can already hit 15C Charge/35C discharge rates with commodity lipo cells designed for the task but the trade off has been capacity because you are trading energy density for power density. How many C charging are we looking at for these graphene cells if they are able to be charged in say minutes or seconds? 15C is already crazy with the highest rate lipo technology where the limiting factor is really the charger, not the battery. For example, the high drain lipo's used in cordless tools are in the range of 5C/10C 2200-2400mAh. That means they are able to be fully charged in 12 minutes at a rate of 11-12 amps per cell. The real benefit will be to get the best of both worlds but that has been the Holy Grail of battery technology thus far.

So if this is real what is the continuous discharge rate and max burst rate? Where can they be bought?

4:50 your average Tesla car with (average) graphene battery capacity of 70 kWh charges up in 5 minutes IF you provide for a duration of 5 minutes a power of: 70kWh / 0.08(3) h = 840 kW.
At 400V (Tesla model S average battery voltage) you need 2100 A and a crane to connect the charging cable to your Tesla car...

A batterie's C-Rating indicates it's charge or discharge rate.
For example, if a battery will fully charge or discharge in 1 minute, it's C-Rating is 60.
If it will fully discharge in 1 hour, then it's C-Rating is 1.
A battery's charge vs discharge C-Rating is often different.
Most charge at C-3 to as little as C-0.2, but charge more fully at less than they're Rated at.
Most LiPo batteries are discharge C-Rated between 10 and 45, so for every Amp of storage they possess, they can supply their C-Rating of output for a shorter period of time.
For example: A C10 with 2 AmpHour of storage, can provide (10x2=)20 Amps output for (60÷10=)6 minutes.
A C-Rate of 0.5 with 2 Ahr of storage, can supply 1 Amp of output for 2 hours.
What is the C-Rating of your Graphene battery?

Hi Venturestarx,

Do you know where to buy Graphene cells? Actually I am working on the University project to power the drone like structure. I am looking for high energy density and less capacity battery cells like Graphene cells. Please provide the information where I can buy it from Canada.

Thanks

Any idea on when these batteries will become available to the general public?

How do you control the discharge so that it's not a curve like a typical capacitor? Internal discharge rate? Leakage? Curious if this can replace Austin batteries without having to put in control mechanisms for the capacitor behavior.

Been a year now I have been building a battery powered surfboard. Batteries is hard to find these days to give good performance. Maybe this is something I've been waiting for.. high discharge capacity and longer time riding. Right now I'm making a tuff decision choosing lipo or ion batteries.

Does the Graphene Battery allow for a charge time of about 5 minutes for an electric vehicle? Would it allow the electric vehicle to have a driving range of 300 to 500 miles on a single charge?

haha 😂 hahahahhahahah, yeah that's about right 😂 standard 18650 and lies, nice trolling sir a master I'm sure ;)

A 3800 mAh cell with a C rate of 7 could charge and discharge at 26.6 amps. C rate X Ah (Amp hours)= Amps battery can handle.
7 C X 3.8 Ah= 26.6 A

How much longer before cell phones, cars, etc. etc. are running on on this type of battery? Within the next few years?
