Darko Milicic hated basketball as a whole, not just playing in the NBA. In some of the Serbian podcasts where he was interviewed he talked about it. Basically, until high school (age of 15) he was playing in his hometown and enjoying basketball. As he was tall and extremely talented he went to play in another city in one of the best youth basketball programs in Serbia and lived alone in what is essentially a boarding school. Basketball became more professional and stopped being a game. He said that he wanted to quit a million times at that moment and return home, but didn't have the heart to tell his parents as they sacrificed a lot during the 90s (which were an extremely bad and rough period of time) to bring up him and his sister. Especially later on when he was projected to go to the NBA and earn millions.

It didn't help that he was drafted at only 18 years of age with an extremely hot head and crazy temper. If he had some form of psychological help or support he would have maybe had a different career trajectory. I would even dare to think that if he remained in Europe under euro coaches which are more strict that his career would have been better. Nothing worse than putting such a lost and crazy kid in the NBA, which alienates much older and mature players with the style of training, playing and the off-court life. I'm glad that he matured and found happiness in life afterwards, he seems like a really cool guy now.

You may say whatever you want, but in Serbia apart from a mountain of talent, we probably have the most colorful characters among professional basketball players 😂

According to Basketball-Ref, Bynum earnt about 73m over 9 years in the NBA. While these figures are likely more than he actually took home himself, the fact is that a *lot* of people would spend 9 years doing a job they hated if they got paid 8 figures for it.

I have seen Darko on 2 weddings, that was at the beginning of his NBA career.. The guy was crazy, actually more or less the same as in those videos.. But now he is settled and normal family man, you can even find him in local church on Sunday..

It was a disgrace what happened to Spanoulis - we went to see him live vs. the NJ Nets and over 1, 000 people in the arena were chanting his name.

One forgotten story of a guy who fell out of love with basketball is Larry Sanders. At one point the Bucks were fighting tooth and nail to get this guy on the court, but I remember that summer when something snapped mentally for him. I hope he's doing well now.

You conveniently omitted to mention that Darko actually started hating basketball in Minnesota because the entire team was helping Kevin Love stat pad. He was averaging something like 28/15/7 while they were a 25w team.
On one occasion they got into conflict because of the way team played and team management asked Darko to apologize to Love since he was the biggest star on the team to what he replied: “I’m not gonna apologize to that cry baby.”
Not that I’m defending Darko as my fellow countrymen, but like you and many of these players say, NBA is 99% business and 1% basketball.

Its interesting that its all players that didn't live up to their own expectations. I would love to hear what the gasol brothers, gallinarri or ginobili have to say about this

I can understand the frustrations of some of the guys.. Imagine being a superstar caliber player in the euro league then you go into the nba to further improve your skills and when you get to the league you get benched for some up and coming college player or being benched and not showcasing what you can do to the team

What Jabari Parker said is spot on, half the league doesn't care about winning about, they just tank for picks. It's embarrassing how bad some teams are. Blazers losing by 60 points, just awful

I think Efthimios Rentzias and Sarunas Jasikevicius were amongst the players not happy with the NBA treatment. And I have a feeling that pretty soon, Sasha Vezenkov will be another one.

There needs to be like a uefa championship counterpart for basketball. All the clubs in the world should bout it out to see who the REALL WORLD CHAMPIONS are. Your channel has got me interested in watching the Euroleague, but only watching the NBA is more accessible in my country.

Interesting topic. Ralph Sampson the original Webanyama unicorn tolerated basketball because of his unique size and talent but really lacked passion. Ed O'Bannon openly discussed his disdain for the NBA.

Often randomly wonder where the hell previous nba players disappeared to. Yesterday's enigma was cauley stein. Perfect timing for this video!

WCS and Parker really spit some facts, the NBA is by far the best league in terms of quality of talent but in terms of pure enjoyment it’s done more than gone down hill and it’s hard for fans to understand that. The league isn’t what it was and while those guys aren’t perfect, the NBA is very very different than the game we grew up playing and I think that’s where we lose guys. Not to mention Europeans do pretty much everything better than we do lol but that’s subjective to an extent

Subscribed. honestly its crazy to think guys don't like playing in the NBA. but I do feel like the NBA style of play is not as high level as people believe it is. I think Europe is going to surpass the NBA eventually if American fans do not start valuing team ball.

Cauley-Stein was obvs talking about Luka who was his teammate in Dallas. Also important to mention is that Cauley-Stein pretty much quit on his team during the season. He was lazy on defense and blew wide open layups several times. This dude is more concerned about getting a new face tattoo than working on himself
