It's like twice a year I'm introduced to some new medical issue or procedure that will haunt me for the rest of my life. It never stops. What's next, brain matter leaking from my ear because I used a qtip to far.

Whrn I had been dating my now wife for about a year she had to have the surgery, for a few months after I had to put ointment on it a few times a day and then layer gauze on top and tape it secure.

I think it was around that time I knew I would eventually marry her, you can't treat an open wound on someone's ass multiple times a day for months without really realizing how committed you are to that relationship.

Had a pilonaidal cyst once. That crap hurt like hell, could not sit, lay down, or even stand in certain ways for a week. Kept putting off going to urgent care and it ended up draining itself (smelled awful) and by the time I got to the doctor, they said "damn we were just gonna cut it open so it could drain anyway, you beat us to it" and just gave me antibiotics so it would heal faster

I had one of these. They’re no joke. Worst part is my primary care said is was a fractured coccyx, and I didn’t actually know until I went to an ER. The emergency medicine doc looked at it for literally 2 seconds and said “Yeah that’s a cyst”. Thanks Dr. Emergency Medicine.

My sister had this her senior year of high school. Because she was still 17, she was in the pediatric ward. They only supplied her laughing gas for pain/sedation during the surgery. They didn't even realize that she was still conscious and coherent until her blood pressure spiked and she passed out from the pain. She said it was hands down the worst pain she had ever experienced. She spent our family Christmas laying on an air mattress in the living room, since she couldn't do anything but lay on her stomach for almost 2 weeks. She broke her ankle 2 weeks after going back to school.

I remember my big brother having this. He was left with a HUGE open wound and I was pretty much the only one who was willing and able to help him treating it. (cleaning, medication, new gauze)
I felt so bad for him, back then I didn't know exactly what the surgery was really about, now I do. This was very interesting! Also very glad he recovered well!

When I was at the hospital to get my gall bladder removed the girl next to me had this. She had already had surgery for it multiple times but it kept coming back. I hope she's doing fine, she was really nice

MANY MANY years ago my poor sister had a boil/abscess just as you described, she was in A LOT of pain. The doctor lanced the boil, drained it (she said it smelled awful, she was embarrassed) and it later healed up just fine.

Thought I had a broken tailbone or something because of the painful lump. Then I randomly shit myself at work. I quickly ran to the bathroom only to discover I didn’t shit myself at all. The cyst bust open and I was bleeding all down my ass and legs. The bathroom stall looked like a murder scene. Felt instant relief, thank God it was the end of my shift.
