Thanks for posting this video! I have about 25 years installing radiant heating systems and have installed hundreds of projects and thought you did a really great job on your installation. With the first company I worked for we would consistently install 1/2" pex on 18" centers for slab areas like the garage and the basement. Every one of those systems worked beautifully, so I expect yours will work wonderfully as well. With the 12-18" centers along with the 4" slabs the floors have a tendency to balance out nicely by the time the heat gets up to the surface, so you will not be able to feel variances in temperatures in the floor. Im looking forward to seeing the next phase of your project, well done!

Bro!, I’m only like 20 minutes into this video and I am completely impressed! You keep up your good work and you’re gonna have an amazing project in the end…
This from a guy who installs extremely tight tolerance glass enclosures showers steam rooms wine cellars etc.

Definitely educational, taught me that if I ever lay pex for radiant heating, I'm going to pre-plan my pattern.

Matt Risinger suggests that you tape and put the plastic vapor barrier over the foam to prevent concrete from getting under the foam and floating. If the foam floats you’ll never get it down. I like your videos

If I can make a suggestion when you run the basement pex, Use graph paper to layout your runs next time. I even chalked lines to run the pex straight. Looks really good when you look back at pictures.

Cool guys! Just stumbled upon your channel after uploading our radiant heat update video. Always cool finding others building their own homes. 👍🙂

It's obviously late, but compacting the stone/earth before pouring concrete would have kept the stone/earth from settling later and causing cracks which is more expensive to fix than renting a compactor.

I can't believe you got Patricia Heaton to pose for your channel!! I love her. Lol, but it does actually look like her. Very gorgeous.

No floor drain? I did pex in my garage floor 25 years ago. It's been great. 26x28'. I turned my thermostat off in the middle of December in NW Illinois and it only dropped 2 degrees per day. 5.5" concrete. Back then it was new and they weren't foaming mine sits on sand but is insulated at the walls. My pex is zip tied to the remesh. If you have to fight it to make a bend you can use a heat gun and it will keep the bend as it cools.

I don't know what climate zone you're in. I'm in 4 but at 5600'. I have 2x6 walls with R19 and ICF foundation on my garage. 2" of foam on the floor and pex. I keep my garage at 55 and that is quite comfortable. The biggest thing is to not expect to raise the temperature for working. It will take hours and your feet will be sweating. My house is also ICF and the same floor treatment. I keep the basement at 68 and it's quite comfortable. With the thermal mass of the floor, it doesn't cool off much when you open the doors. Mine aren't as insulated as yours

A little extra attention to detail for securing you walls, and trusses can pay dividends down the road. I plan on doing the same thing on our build, an extra $100-$500 in cost seems worth it to me.

I literally had Amazon car hit the hodge of my car door! This happened December 19th 2023. FINALLY had them send me a check to fix my door on January 9th and would get it February 9th we’ll never got it and they said to reach back out if i didn’t get the check. Was told I could get a E-check sent but now I have to wait another 30 days for that check to be canceled for them to send me the e-check. I wanted to put it in the shop next week while im out of town. But nope, Amazon sucks about get crap put together

Did you do a heat loss calculation? Most pex suppliers will do the tubing layout design for free! A lot better than guessing.

It's been about a year now and I would like an update on how well your radiant heated floor is working out and what equipment you are using to circulate and heat the liquid

What’s the consensus about the insulation foam under heavy load (like a truck moving in and out every day). I imagine that eventually the foam gets squished and subsequently the floor starts cracking.
