this is the Unluckiest, AND Luckiest Kid in the World!

In April 2022, the Shaw family was in the doctor's office, when their hearts broke. Both children were diagnosed with MLD, so they were unlikely to live past their 8th birthday. Luckily there is a the treatment for the disease, called Libmeldy. But it's the world's most expensive drug.

And only 1 daughter could receive the treatment.

The treatment works by extracting stem cells from the patient. Doctor then insert functional versions of a faulty gene into the stem cells. And finally doctors inject the cells back into the body. But this only works if you catch the disease early. And for the older sister Nala, it was too late. But for Teddi, there was still hope. The only problem,

it's still the world's most expensive drug.

In the US this would have cost $3.5 million dollars. But luckily, where they live, there is public healthcare. So Teddi, became the first child in the UK to receive the treatment. And today Teddi, is disease free. Meaning

My little sister was born with a disease where you can't live past 2 years and unfortunately there was no cure, on her 2nd birthday everyone was crying but she surprised us and now she's 3 I'm so glad nothing happened to her

It's so sad that one had to die bc of a horrible disease. Her memory will live on on in her sister

This is a sad story but teddy is a boss and obviously made it through. RIP Nala.
Edit: bro I did not know saying a little girl surviving something so tough was so controversial

I think a lot of y’all in the comments missed the part where he said it was to late for the older child. The parents never ended up having to choose, the treatment was only possible for the younger child.
