Yesterday I had a chat my friend, organist @FraserGartshore about next steps for my organ channel on YouTube in relation to my new organ room and my soon to be arriving new Hauptwerk console. It’s nice to be surrounded by colleagues, both professionals like Fraser and non-professionals like myself who are helping each other with idea’s, suggestions and functional, honest feedback. Making organ music on YouTube is about sharing beauty, helping others, encourage others and help each other grow and develop. It’s in my opinion not about who has the biggest Channel, play the biggest cathedral organs or the most difficult pieces. I dedicate this piece to Fraser. Thanks for our friendship!

This piece is frequently asked for and suggested by my subscribers. Here it is, I hope you like my interpretation! Let me know.

I advise you to listen to this piece via a HiFi-set or earphones/-buds. The speakers from a iPhone or IPad for instance, can’t handle the differences in pitches between the right hand (oboe) and the dark left hand (Bourdon 8’) and the 16’ subbas for the pedals very well. You only hear the oboe…

François Clément Théodore Dubois (24 August 1837 – 11 June 1924) was a French composer, organist, music professor and Conservatoire director. He was conservative and was forced to retire early after a scandal erupted over the faculty's attempt to rig the Prix de Rome competition to prevent the modernist Maurice Ravel from winning. As a composer, Dubois was seen as capable and tasteful, but not strikingly original or inspired. But nevertheless I love his music. Do you?

Couldn't agree more Rien - I was talking to an organist friend about this exact point this weekend.

There's an amazing online community of organists, musicians broadly, music enthusiasts, and casual observers, who are incredibly supportive of each other's efforts. It's a truly beautiful thing.

I truly enjoy and appreciate all performances I experience, and look to what I can learn from these.

And on that note, thank you for such a beautiful performance - Aristide has a lovely oboe!!

Dubois wrote a beautiful cantilena in the right hand for this piece. Hope your channel grows to reach new levels this autumn!

I have never heard a Dubois comp that I did not thoroughly enjoy. THIS performance brings out the mercurial magic in his score. Your timing and the delicate registration make this little gem shine very brightly, indeed. (I’m looking for my Dubois collection directly. Stress relief and peaceful, “organic” music. Beautiful music beautifully performed.
