Tofukuji is my favorite koyo spot, it has the most intense and dense autumn colors imo, and Nanzenji is spectacular too

The plaintive chirp of the transient life's autumn insects permeates our Japanese hearts from 1000 years ago .

Top 10 would have to include Iya Valley in Miyoshi. The Iya River/Obeke Gorge is absolutely stunning during the fall.

Just came back from Mt Asahidake (20 Sep 18) still very green.

I went to Nasushiobara, part of Nikko National Park early November. The beauty of the river and valley with autumn foliage is breath-taking as well. Some trekking along the river would help you keep yourself fit and be good for fresh air. It’s easier to go there by Tohoku Shinkansen than to Nikko.
