Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi has sparked yet another controversy by sending out invitations for the Pongal festival with the Union Government’s logo rather than the state government’s, and referring to himself as ‘Tamizhaga Aalunar’ or the governor of Tamizhagam. The governor’s suggestion to rename the state from Tamil Nadu to ‘Tamizhagam’ last week had sparked anger in both the ruling DMK and the Opposition AIADMK. In this episode of the Editorial our Managing Editor Mr Sujit Nair shares his take on the matter.

Suppose if someone from Tamilnadu is appointed as Governor of Uttar Pradesh and he suggests Ayodhya must be renamed as Sulthanpur or Babribad how will the people of Hindi belt and Godi media react. Tamilnadu assembly, government, media, and the public have recorded their opposition to R.N.Ravi in a very decent way. If they don't listen, Tamilnadu will speak in the language they speak.

People of non-BJP states are punished by appointing governors who obstruct the smooth functioning of opposition-ruled state governments in every way. 22 important draft bills passed by the T.N state Assembly are pending with the governor for over 1.5 years and the governor is openly saying that he has the power to keep them pending indefinitely. It seems that these governors did not act according to their own will. It can be assumed that they are controlled by their masters.

''Does Governor Govern ?''. This was one of the most interested/popular topic debated in early seventies while I read in Class VIII. But Governor should not be the ''Agent of the Central Govt.'' He should encourage the good things/policies suggested by the State Legislature irrespective of difference of political ideology.

The original border of Tamizhagam includes Tamil Nadu, Kerela, Andra Pradesh and south Karnataka, if Ravi wants to call Thamizhagam, then better the Union form the original borders and rename it as Thamizhagam, we will welcome it.
