Federal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault holds a news conference following his participation in the 7th Ministerial on Climate Action (MoCA7) in Brussels. Co-hosted by Canada, China and the European Union, the annual meeting aims to advance the goals of the United Nations' Paris Agreement on climate change. On July 12, Minister Guilbeault announced a contribution of $450 million to the UN’s Green Climate Fund to support developing countries’ clean energy transitions.
He faces questions from reporters on the federal government's upcoming policy fossil fuel subsidies and concerns over mining in the Ring of Fire region in Ontario. He is also asked about the controversy surrounding the CEO of a United Arab Emirates oil company being appointed president of COP28, the UN climate change conference taking place later in the year.
