UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak Says N. Ireland Brexit Deal Is Causing Harm

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak says the Brexit settlement in Northern Ireland is causing economic and political harm and called on the European Union to be flexible, comments likely to be seen as an attempt to publicly align himself with Boris Johnson after reports of a rift. Speaking to Bloomberg's Senior Executive Editor for Economics Stephanie Flanders to mark the launch of the new UK website, the Chancellor was asked the need for emergency measures to ease the largest fall in UK household income on record.

The majority of people in Northern Ireland are happy with the current deal. The majority of the politicians in Northern Ireland are happy with the current deal. A minority of people in Northern Ireland threaten to become violent if they dont get another deal (that they cannot define, but they dont like the current one). The UK Brexit government is therefore supporting this minority.

NI are actually in better situation than the rest of UK. They have no controls with the EU, which is a much more important market than the remaining UK nations. Better to have a border in Irish Sea than across Ireland. Rest of UK have been delaying import controls from EU and have yet to see the full effect brexit.
