Amazon Fire HD 8 vs 10 | Which budget tablet is best?

Comparing the new Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet, fresh for 2020, with the Fire HD 10, to see which budget device is best for you. If you're after a cheap Android tab for watching movies, playing basic games and browsing the web, the Fire HD 8 plus the HD 10 are both great value for money. However, the smaller model is considerably cheaper at £90 vs the £150 10-inch tablet.

That extra cash buys you a bigger screen with a sharper FHD resolution, which also serves up warmer, nicer looking colours. Performance is improved for the HD 10 as well, with a faster Mediatek chipset for gaming on the go. However, Amazon's Fire HD 8 2020 also comes in a Plus version with more RAM if you need it.

Kids will prefer the smaller and lighter 8-inch tablet, which is a lot easier to handle. As for the rest of the specs they're almost identical, while both tabs also deliver 10 hours of non-stop video streaming each time you charge the battery.

I just bought the 10 last week to use for my yoga zoom classes. I love my Fire 10! I got the white one with a nice case. It’s fast and the picture is beautiful. I also have a 2014 HD 7 and it still works but it’s slow and the battery is pretty worn out. But I’ll tell you that these Amazon Fires are a really good deal and last a very long time. Highly recommended!

I spend a lot of time travelling for work, i have found that compact size is more of a priority for me to keep my luggage to a minimum so the 8 it is.

Just ordered the 10 on Prime day and got it for $79.99, still waiting for delivery.All the reviews so far have been positive for a tablet in this price range, hope I am not disappointed. One question however, I thought it was based on Android 9 and not Android 10, maybe it has since been updated.

Hi, I purchased the Fire HD 10 during Amazon's Prime Day sale and paid approximately 1/2 price, a very sweet deal and love it! The larger screen is very nice, watching videos is a pleasure, and I have had zero problems with downloads or performance. Nothing to complain about.

I just got a fire HD 10 plus (2021). And I'm in love. For some reason I prefer this over my old iPad mini 4. Can do all the same things for the most part and it has more ram.

Play store is very easy to add.... it's as simple as downloading apps....4 apks in precise order and a soft reboot. Side note....if you download content for off line viewing... Your battery last nearly18 hours on a single charge.

There is a noticeable difference between the new Fire HD 10 and the previous version of it.
It is so much faster, its a joy to use my new one. None of the lag I used to get on the older version.
I would still recommend side loading Google play services. It gives you so much more options for apps than the rather limited Amazon App options.

I mostly use my Kindle 8 for reading and occasionally watching a video.. it's perfect for reading, the small size is perfect

Thanks for this. I've been looking to upgrade from my 7 (i started with a 6 and upgrade every couple years, with the exception of the HDX 8.9 that crapped out way before it should have). I think i've made up my mind and will go with the 10. Awesome review!
