Also marrying both of his sisters meant that none of them would be open to marriage proposals during and after the Conquest by power-hungry Westerosi lords eager to further their own status or their standing with the new ruling king. The Targaryens separated themselves from the common Westerosi and kept their god-like, otherly, ethereal air around them for another generation which definetely helped them consolidate their power during the early stages of their rule. Power and Dragons remained with the House of the Dragon and the Blood of the Dragon only and that made them the undisputed Kings of Westeros for the foreseeable future.
