Up and coming Saskatchewan songwriter Colter Wall stopped by last week to pay us a visit. Looking for something with an antique flavor, Wall borrowed this killer 1937 Martin 00-17 for his show that evening at City Winery with Billy Joe Shaver. Colter Wall is a young Saskatchewan born songwriter and performing musician. Steeped in Old Timey material and traditional Americana, Wall's sound is comprised of resonate and raw baritone vocals, Folk and Bluegrass style guitar and banjo picking, steady kick-drum stomping, and visually provoking, story telling lyrics. Wall Draws influence from legends of the past such as Hank Williams, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt, and The Band, as well as more modern Americana pioneers including Shovels and Rope, Jack White, Ray Lamontagne, and Shakey Graves. Despite only recently beginning his musical career, Colter Wall has been seen in the company of Saskatchewan's infamous gritty bluegrass trailblazers,The Dead South. Wall has had the opportunity to open for The Dead South on several occasions with more show's upcoming. In addition to racking up memorable live shows across the province, Wall is planning on releasing an EP in the summer of 2015 and has been busy recording at Regina's own Studio One. From dive bars to fundraiser galas, Colter Wall has a history of leaving audiences in shock at the maturity of his voice as well as his songwriting. Colter's style of playing took to the Martin like a bird to the wind. Check out this impromptu, one take/one mic performance of his new track "Sleeping on the Blacktop."

unique is an understatement regarding his style and killer voice...once again guys you find a way to properly showcase an artist and an instrument. Very raw, edgy and yet full of life.

COLTER READ THIS:
I have been out of country music for better than 25 years because it sucks. This man Colter Wall has awoken me from my grave...It puts me in the mind set of Waylon and Johnny but still a voice of his own...Simply awesome...I would recognize this mans voice anywhere. For the last 25 years I don't like none of these fake ass country music singers. They are such a put on! I'm a guitar player and singer myself and your music is worth doing. Your lyrics are what I have lived. Coyote chewing on a cigeret is what I've pulled before, not one you would take home to momma. I feel your words and music Colter...I would pay to see you. I believe in what you do. Thank you for making real music again. Country Music was dead until you breathed life into it again. Waylon and Johnny are smiling now because you are different, even nothing like THEY have heard before. Colter your the one, the man.... Canadians should be proud even though you would think he was from TN or VA lol...
