They still think $2500 for a couple starting out is Affordable or someone on fixed income getting $1500 a month do to illness or injury is affordable housing. Rents should of never passed $1200 for a Two bedroom.

Can we also talk about what’s considered “affordable” because I look at the apartments in housing lotteries and when I was making 50k, and I made about 2k and change per month after taxes…they thought affordable was one full pay check and some of my next paycheck as well. This doesn’t even include utilities!! Food!! Transportation!! How can anyone save any kind of money when they’re living paycheck to paycheck??

No, you need to get these real estate corporations out of here or at least restrict them from what they can buy and build.

There is no such thing as affordable housing in new york. People have to get roommates and pool their money to pay rent and live regular lives. But at the same time there are so many weirdos out here who wants a roommate.

I think it's deplorable that affluent high-rises can go up, but the regulation to build adequate low-to-moderate income housing gets ignored, due to the developer incentive. Plus, it's going to be interesting to see how those who move into the City can uphold that lifestyle without the low-to-moderate income populations who make up their support services and conveniences.

I don't want to hear no more lies about these politicians and they're trying to help because they are not helping the tenants or the crime in the neighborhood

No. We don’t need more “affordable housing” that’s not affordable. What we need is RENT CONTROL BACK! What we need is for Gentrifiers to STOP COMING INTO OUR NEIGHBORHOODS and effectively raising the price up because they can afford a $5.00 cup of coffee everyday. What we need is all these condo developments to chill TF out. And speaking of which, if people are going to build condos in MY neighborhood then I should at least get a 1 bed room automatically. If you were BORN AND RAISED in NYC and have been living here for waaaay over 10+ years… YOU deserve to live in these fancy buildings. - Not these out of towners who think they’re New Yorkers because they moved here from wherever they’re from and have been only here for 2 years.

She's really not talking about nothing, there needs to be more rent control period especially for the people working two jobs just to live

2019 State law has hurt affordable apartments in the city. It is forcing landlords to sit on vacant apartments rather then spending $10's of thousands of dollars on capital improvements so it meets rental standards.

THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO STEP IN AND PUT A CAP ON HOW MUCH THESE "LANDLORD THIEVES" CAN CHARGE FOR/AND INCREASE RENTS. RENT CONTROL IS NEEDED ACROSS THE CITY, PERIOD.

I lost everything because of the greed of landlords and cost of living even with working almost 70 hours a week . No one should have to worry about a roof over their head! changes are definitely needed soon or the streets will be filled with millions of homeless soon . This is a real serious situation we should stop worrying about the stupid shit like cow farts and start focusing on a better way of life for everyone.

A lot of y'all I can relate to these landlords in New York are the ones that's price gouging based off of how much the market is going for when really we was never paying that amount here in New York minimum wage just reach $15 an hour so how could you expect us to pay $1, 000 rent $1, 400 rent nearly $2, 000 rent you have to increase the minimum wage and stop discriminating when you see that we have these programs

Also, hold your local elected officials accountable. Do you show up to townhalls? Small local elections?

I noticed she skipped right over Harlem and it’s renaissance to go right to the Bronx residents who came much later. The journalist keeps asking about Harlem and she’s mum. Yes, many in Harlem that are the original people black Americans have moved away and largely due to an invasion of people from all over coming to the community making it more expensive.

Native NYer here. We moved to Jersey City because we could no longer afford NYC. The same thing is happening here. Affordable housing on an income of $50k is $1600. The math isn’t mathing. Smh
