While everyone started at FF7, FF8 is where I started.

All I can ever get my hands on were the 4 pirated CDs. Didn't even know what to expect from it, but I was mesmerized.

It was so different from the previous games I played. Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Quake. All are great in their own right and uniqueness. But FF8 and those that follows... It had a story to tell. A beautiful story to tell.

Little bit of a sad story, but I fell in love with FF8 in my teens when I played it with my best friend. We both were kind of depressed and we loved to imagine that we were going to the Balamb school for escapism. We often had the game running just to listen to the Balamb Garden theme.

I was able to grow out of my teen depression, but my best friend wasn't so lucky and I lost him to it.
When I play the game, or listen to the music I still feel transported to that time in my life, longing to see my friend again.

In my head I often related to Squall and saw my friend as Seifer(Cifer in the German version)... I lost my friend, not to a sorceress, but something that is often even harder to fight.

Still, life goes on and wounds heal, but memories stay.

VII may have been my first, but VIII holds a very special place in my ❤. It officially made me love Final Fantasy as a whole and it still remains my favorite after the XIII and VII Series. That's why I was super excited to see VIII come to the Switch. Made me ❤️ VIII all over again. It may be #2 (can't decide between VII and XIII for #1 Spot), but it has one of my all time favorite systems and characters. Rinoa and Squall will always be my #1 favorite couple and characters. They were the first two I could relate to and understand quite a bit.

FF8 was my first FF game too. first one completed, owned, and bought 3 times because I wore the discs out so much. I can play some of this on the piano myself too, but mostly just right-hand. I can't play my left-hand well at all. VIII will always be my favorite. Hardly anyone pays attention to the story line, which was what kept me going. It was like a good book I couldn't put down. <3

FF8 was by far my favorite. I hope one day they do a remake. I am now 36 years old! But I have fond memories of exploring every part of the world map after school and on weekends.
