RYOBI 18V ONE+ 24Q Hybrid Power Cooler Test & Review (#PI1824QBT)

We travel with our car and trailer. It's nice to have a portable battery powered frig/freezer. We always have solar or car power, but finding ice can be a problem. Ice also takes up a lot of space within the cooler.

RYOBI has come out with their new 24Qt Cooler that runs on 18V Ryobi batteries, 12V cigarette sockets, or 110AC. In direct sunlight and 85F outside, with cooler set at 35F in Max mode, it ran for 4 hours with a 9Ah battery. The voltage dropped to 17.4V and the battery still showed 2 bars.

This cooler is not cheap ($499 list price). If you don't already own RYOBI batteries or don't need the portability, there are other vendors that sell larger units at a similar price.

Here are things I used to test:

Honestly straight to the point answered every question I had, one of the best reviews I've seen on any product

I found the exact cooler this is a rebrand of: the Alpicool MT25. Alpicool sells adapters to use Milwaukee, Makita, and Dewalt batteries. It's about $300; the Ryobi markup is outrageous. If someone could make a 3d print file to adapt Ryobi batteries to the Alpicool version, that would be awesome.

Great review. I have wanted one since I first saw the plans for the design. I like the idea of not having to take ice along but for the price of $500.00 I think it's a bit high.

Great review. The problem with tall bottles around the inside edge hitting the lid is common on all of these coolers. It's a shame that when connected to AC power it doesn't charge the batteries. It's also sad that they used the hard-to-find power plug common on many of these DC cooler/freezers, but I suppose there are so many in use now that they would have gotten flack for using something else.
I think I will stick with my F40C4TMP which runs just fine from the 18V batteries with a buck converter or the Ryobi DC power adapter like you demonstrated. Thanks for laying out the cash and sharing with everyone.

5 bills? Wow, I bought the 36qt old bodega, for $280 and that includes tax! 5 yr warranty… I get what ryobi is trying to do, too small of a cooler area, this thing will have to get down to the $250 range to be successful imo

$500!?!? Does it at least come with batteries or is it bare tool? Ryobi have lost their minds.

The battery cut-off voltage setting (at least medium and high) would be useful if you were using a LiFePO4 battery for your source.

Ok but 4 hours at 35 degrees in direct sun at 85 with 1 battery is AMAZING. so 2 batteries at 45 degrees in the shade should easily last a work day. The weight kinda makes it tough for construction workers to add to there personal arsenal. But a crew with it added to the decor of a truck and a dedicated extension cord seems totally worth it

Does it charge your 18V batteries if attached and plugged in to 120V?

Why wouldn't they make use of the 40V line. I guess I can run it with the 40V power station....

Great review and looks like a great product but $500 for a portable fridge? Ryobi is reaching.
