Narendra Modi has declared victory in India's national elections. It secures him a third term as prime minister, extending what has already been a decade in power. But it's also reduced the majority of his ruling coalition, led by his Hindu nationalist BJP, with an unexpectedly strong challenge from the opposition. Where does it leave the populist leader and his polaraizing agenda?

For more on this, we talk to Sumit Ganguly. He is a professor of political science at Indiana University in the United States and has written extensively on Indian domestic politics & foreign policy. He joins us from Bloomington.

For a look on US-Indian relations, we talk to Katherine Hadda. She is a former US diplomat who served as consul general in the Indian city of Hyderabad. She's currently chair in US-India Policy Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington.

And we talk to Richard Rossow. He is the director of the Chair in US-India Policy Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and he joins us from Washington.

They lost constituency where Ayodhya Ram mandir was inaugurated. It has 87% Hindu population and considered bastion of Hindutva politics.
Their defeat shows the maturity of Indian electorate

4:56 You need to stop listening immediately when they bring an expert who says that Indian voters also voted for 'Climate Change' 🤣🤣🤣, it is truly embarrassing for anyone who knows even little bit about Indian voters.

I live in Canada, inflation here is way higher than India. Ganguly you are a professor do you not know how global economic downturn influences globally? Still highly populated India managed to keep the inflation way lower than North America and Europe.

NItish wont join INDI alliance because he knows that if he leaves, Modi will still be PM due to support from CBN who will get even more power and benefits by remaing in the NDA.
Its a classic Nash Equilibrium in game theory.

As an Indian, I am surprised by how much that white bald guy in the end knows about regional party dynamics in India.

Opposition promised freebies which actually is not financially possible but stupidly fell for it. Inspite of this BJP is the single party which got more than the entire Opposition combined.

This was much needed. A strong opposition. Now, let's hope they (both) work for people and their needs.

It was too little Hinduism and a huge amount of communal politics by Congress, which has regularly used this ever since the partition of India. Actually, the BJP is the least communal party since long, though it certainly is nationalist. Nonsense talk about the constitution by Rahul Gandhi, who has not held a SINGLE responsible post in the government despite the government being in his pocket for decades in the past.

India literally has the largest voting population since China has no suffrage.

Whole narrative is flawed...Modi's party more focused on development and welfare and that's is reflected in Union Budget and in his speeches....Why don't you listen and analyze speeches of the other hand Opposition keep playing caste politics.... Why western media always spread propoganda against non abharamic religions.
