This is incredibly helpful. Most other videos on YouTube are total beginner's courses that explain stuff like if statements and for loops when all I need is a quick overview of the differences between how python works and how c++ works. Thank you!

Hi, nice lesson. A side note for other watchers, I do checked that at 11:30 the two lines are not doing the “exact same thing”, the first one (john) is doing a copy of another instance using the “=“ operator. The second is just creating a instance (alec) using the parenthesis operator. Anyway this doesn’t change the good quality of your content, keep it up. Cheers.

"self" isn't a keyword in python. Its a convention. But you can use any other name you like. The object is fed in as the first parameter to the function.

I've just decided to learn C/C++ (not quite sure yet) after spending a few years on high level python/js stuff. This really helps me get a grip with the basics. Thank you!

Access specifiers such as private, public and protected are supposed to be for security reasons within code. For instance, private prevents data members from being accessible to your code unless your code is a member of the class. So, rather than for readability of the code, access specifiers are there for security reasons. That combined with the class achieves encapsulation.
