Silly Commuter Racing - Attacking the Lights

Get the timing right and you can make it through the lights whilst you fellow cyclists can not.
In situation one the cyclist in front of me did speed up to make it though the lights before I passed him, unfortunately he didn't speed up enough and didn't make it through
In situation two the cyclist in front was out of the saddle and in the drops trying to also make it through.
In both cases the light phases mean you have a 1.30 - 2.00 min wait till the next green light.

Why not stop on the amber?
Situation one, as traffic merges from the right lane to turn left I was keeping my eyes on the vehicles in front to see if they were going to change lanes into my path, as such I was not looking behind me and was not aware how close the other cyclists where. Despite the damp conditions I could have stopped due to running disc brakes but I doubt the others would have if they were close behind me, as such I made the decision to continue through the junction.
Situation 2: I was aware of the vehicle behind me and due to my lack of brake lights I thought it was best if I continued through the junction to avoid being rear ended.

Very impressive Gaz, I hope to see you on the road one day, only then will I get the opportunity to appreciate your speed.

Aren't those traffic lights at the end a bit quick? looked like the turned amber for both ways at the same time, then red for your direction at the same time as they turn green for oncoming traffic.... that's just an accident waiting to happem

Hey CycleGaz how much does your racer weigh and what speed do you ride at when there is no traffic in front of you?

I just bought a racer and you look like you are going pretty fast so wanted to know. Mine is 14.5kg which I think is quite heavy. Haven't tried it yet as have to adjust the gears.

You are good on the flat Gaz but i was wondering what you are like on the hills?
I dont mean the gentle inclines in the South East London area but proper long drawn out climbs? or even shorter punchier climbs of a couple of miles?

From experience strong flat riders like you are not so good at climbing, thats not a criticism but a good cyclist should have decent climbing endurance

It is no great leap of imagination to see "speeding up my pace in an attempt to get through the lights before they change" as a definition of racing the lights. As you are aware from learning to drive, you are supposed to ease off on the speed as you approach lights / crossings.

Have you seriously just posted a video of racing the lights? This will not bode well if a defense lawyer for some tit who runs you over gets a hold of it.
