* Minor corrections
- In the MetS pentad there is a typo where "low" TG should be "high" TG. Kudos to those who were paying attention and caught this. I could say, "it was a test and you passed," but in truth it was just a typo introduced by the editor that I (we) missed.
- Nutritional ketosis threshold is 0.5 mM.
- "Blue whale" B roll doesn't show blue whales. We couldn't find Blue whale B-roll. But as a fun fact, they can grow up to 200 tons and their only natural predator is Orcas. Also, their latin name is Balaenoptera musculus, which means - roughly - winged whale and mouse, respectively... which may be a pun by Carl Linnaeus when he named the species.

I'm a diagnosed autistic with bipolar type 1 and adhd. I do keto which for me is a mix of meat, veg, eggs, nuts, seeds, low carb fruit and dairy, 20g net carbs per day. That brought about an amazing change in my mental state. I've been a successful self employed artist for the last 22 years, adhd was my main battle, any excuse to be away from the easel and I'd find it lol. But since keto I'm way more focused and can happily paint all day long without distraction. 🙂

Dr Palmer at Harvard just received a multimillion dollar donation from a single donor to study the same thing! God bless these people, they are giving so many people hope!

Keto killed completely my panick attacks. Totally disappeared from 2012. Wonderful work Nick!

One month in ketosis cured my lifelong low-grade depression. I don’t need any more research than that to be convinced of the utility of a ketogenic diet. I remain on a carnivore diet with the exception of a Cesar salad on our Saturday night dinner out.

When I eat too much sugar and carbohydrates… within a matter of hours I can feel my mental state shifting. The next few days is always difficult for me. I feel like crap, I’m easily irritated and frustrated by stupid things. I get emotional and sometimes spiral in a dark manner.

The next time there is a filibuster in the US senate may I suggest that this study be one of the items read to the group. It should also be made mandatory reading for the policy and decision makers at the USDA, FDA ADA and AHA.

This is absolutely fascinating and amazing! My son and I attended the CoSci conference and heard Matt. His story is astounding. This information should be sung from the You have become one of my favorite YouTubers! Thank you for sharing!

Carnivore cured my black hole depression and anxiety after years of failed antidepressant meds.

I had severe depression and anxiety from early childhood into my 40s. I went gluten free, which actually made a noticeable difference for my depression. But I was still quite depressed and very anxious. Went carnivore 17 months ago, and have been totally depression free for over a year. Anxiety is vastly inproved.

Hard not to be excited by where we could go with ketogenic diets / nutritional ketosis.

Thanks for the vid Nick!

Carnivore was better at dealing with my extreme depression and anxiety than any pill or counselling.

Great commentary; thanks! I have used ketosis personally for years to treat my seizures, and it has made all the difference.

I shared this with a relative who is the guardian of someone with schizophrenia. She recently had to have her meds cut due to liver issues and they're having a hard time getting it under control again. Fingers crossed this will help.

Very interesting. My dad was bi-polar - passed 10 years ago, but would have been nice to know this decades ago. Thanks!!

"Just test it yourself... it's free." -Me, when people respond skeptically to keto / carnivore success stories.

Nice acknowledgement of the Baszucki family at 5:45. Matt's talk at CoSci in Las Vegas (March 2024) was a terrific example of how even seemingly hopeless mental problems can be reversed using keto (along with other lifestyle changes).

I got 'restructured out' of a job that had been grinding me into the ground, and was left overweight, creaky joints, "old" and in major brain fog... When a chance at a good job in a different field appeared, I knew I needed to be mentally sharp, and went on a keto diet (imperfectly, but any job worth doing is worth doing badly). It kept me focused and clear-minded, with the stamina for that job, and I continued even when the job contract ended as it helped me scramble through the next few years. If you need to "do something", this is a good place to start.

I use to think i had bi polar issues, until i stopped drinking, started exercise, and cut out junk foods, and became more empathetic. I owe alot of that to YT, many of the unknown issues i had which i eventually had to self doagnose, was from all my time spent researching various experts on YT. I remember my first venture into the health space 12yrs ago by way of the keto diet, and advice from Dr Berg, who i no longer follow as much. Now its Huberman, and his various guest experts. Im glad YT is a thing, otherwise id still be mindlessly oblivious to my problems. This is also great news for keto people. I might consider cycling it in when more research comes out. Thanks Nick 👊😎
