Su-30 and F-16: The difference between Russian and American fighters

The Russian Sukhoi Su-30 Flanker-C and the US General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon are the two most popular jet fighters in the world. The Su-30 is currently in service in Russia, China, Venezuela, Algeria, Uganda, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. Meanwhile the F-16 is even more popular, in the US Air Force and 25 other countries.

Agree with all below comments. An F15 is a better comparison for an SU 30. All those tweets that can be done on F16's aerodynamic controls are suppose to be able to do what a variable direction nozzle can but I believe they would create more drag than using a variable direction nozzle. It's debatable so please correct me if I am wrong.

The deciding factor is the range of BVM and the radars capabilities.

The F-16V is more than a match for the Su 30, it has an AESA radar and a lot of the technology they use in the F-35A. The Su 30 has passive array radar and missiles that are more nineties technology than 21st century. The F-16V has a much smaller RCS than the Su 30. The only thing that the Su 30 wins on is range of the aircraft. It only looks cheap on first glance the maintenance is so high it is only available for 40% of the time if they can get the parts. The lifetime cost of the F-16 is a quarter of the Su 30 not only due to the single reliable engine but also the overall maintenance being much lower. The manoeuvrability is similar in both aircraft and the F-16 has no complicated thrust vectoring which can fail. The manoeuvres the Su 30 can do that the F-16 can't will be unhealthy to do outside an airshow.

A su 30 would win easily in a dogfight with the f 16 but in bwr fight, it depends.... Anyway this isn't a fair comparison...try comparing the F 15 with the su 30...

It`s depend from :
- how many flight hours per year;
- how many times engine work near red line;
- atmoshpere condition - early India MiG-29 flight in desert storm and after this flights need to clean engine from glass;
- how many times pilot move engine stick between regimes;
- engine price.

Comparing a single engine to a twin engine 3x it's size? Compare it to F-15. Then you gotta conversation.

Vipers block 62, or 72 or f 2 can shoot down su 30 ... just becouse it has 2 engines and big radar its not invincible and in visual range f 5 from Brasil is the most dangerous jet in the world along with jas 39 gripen ng and in bvr raptors...

both fighters are builds with their own main purposed with both manufactured are giving their expertised.
buts in the real worlds, f16 are fly in many air forces becouse America has sold f16 after many affords had makes by America governent and for the populars is how america gives a warning for any country are planning to buying Russian jets to be cancelling they planning and must buy jets only from America. for every America allied country, f16 will be buy for the prices for a little low and for any non allied country, America will pushing them to buy f16 for highest prices with the basic model and packages.. others America going to do is terms were non allied must sign is anything works on f16 even just to rutine flying is must under America green light. for services is must by America with cost must paid. america just makes non allied country had operated f16 just likes rental..
