What really doesn’t help is how Vaughn moves like a crappy 80s boogeyman, slowwwly walking up to her. The original had Perkins running in with a psychotic grin, it was terrifying! This is just hilarious.

I think the reason why the reveal here didn't work as well as the original was that in the original, Norman Bates came through the door all smiling and happy, and that made it creepy as hell that he was as happy as a kid on Christmas day when he was about to kill someone. You also didn't get to see him for long in that get-up, and the audience was still shocked, trying to process the reality of the situation, once it was over.

In this version, they made Norman Bates look like the typical Hollywood villain, and it takes away from the demented quality of the character in the original.

This feels more like a parody than a remake

I'm glad I never wasted more than these two minutes watching this. The OG is a masterpiece.

Say what you want about Psycho 1998 but Julianne Moore nailed that reaction. Her scream was fantastic. If I was Gus Van Sant I would have had her scream one more time when she saw Norman though

This "remake" is an insult to Alfred Hitchcocks masterpiece

Things I like about this version (surprisingly, there are a few)

-the extended build up to seeing the mother in the chair. The extra time allowed for some extra tension to build.
-the birds. It adds to the bird motif quite nicely and the normally peaceful sound of the birds chirping makes the juxtaposition of the reveal more pronounced.

Thats mostly it. Anything this scene does is fairly executed but there’s just that missing hint of something to it.

Why anyone believed that a remake of Psycho was necessary is mind boggling.
