Haha it's so funny... if Bart was a scholar in Europe at a theological faculty he wouldn't stick out with his opinions even with his christian colleagues. What he does is historical-critical exegesis at its finest. As a Christian from Germany I really appreciate his views and his teachings about the historical Jesus and the beginning of Christianity. He is just honest about the source and takes them much more serious than many apologists. Fundamentalist Evangelicalism is not that much of a thing here in Germany, but they're here and they're trying to establish the same stuff like apologetics and so on... but apologetics is often just confirmation bias and can't keep up with the level of academic history and theology.

I have a thought on all that tearing of the curtain bit. Did they have accurate clocks at the time? Surely you could not witness both the tearing of the curtain and hear the last words at the same time as they took place in different places. Only way to say which was first would be if you had two witnesses with a clock with you and they compared notes afterwards.

Calling people "clowns" is exactly what religions do to dehumanize others by calling them unbelievers, infidels, heretics, etc. It's called considering other people "the other". Not of your group, in your sphere, easier to accept being treated differently, going to hell, not taken seriously in a conversation, etc. Silly evangelicals are human beings. Just like all of us.

I like the ideas of Christianity like loving God, your neighbor and generally being a decent person but I fail to see how Christians themselves are really practicing what they're preaching these days. Evangelicals and their religion are in the same vein as any fundamentalists where thinking is not allowed.
