I remember someone said we’re not looking for something that’s closest to reality, since there will always be a distortion and we’re all looking for the distortion we like the most. My current best audio set is a bit far from realistic sound but it always make me happy whenever I listen to it (I have a set which produce much more realistic sound but I don’t like it as much as that one).

I wholly agree that audiophilia is whatever the person wants it to be. To me, audiophilia is working with what I have been given and making a better product than had I shilled out money for a new product. I bought a pair of HE-560 v2's a few years back now that had a blown out driver for $150. I did a bypass mod, did some minor damping adjustments, and did a blind test with a friend who preferred the sound signature of the repaired side, so I did the same mods to the other side and made custom vent grills using some audio transparent fabric and a car grill which opened it up even more.

Another thing I love to do is to figure out how low in price I can go to get a product I can happy wear for hours and not care to switch out to my Hifimans, Mr Speakers, Electrostats, or hell, even my speakers. Currently my modded Monoprice Retros bought 'used' from Amazon Warehouse, with 'used' Brainwavz XL pads and several other damping mods, both internal and external, make for an incredibly fun pair of sub-$30 bass-focused headphones where there have been days that I have gone "Nah, I want to listen to those", over everything else that I own. I bring my Koss KPH-30I'S sailing all the time, since honestly I'd be more disappointed in losing the Yaxi pads than the headphones themselves. Stop fucking gatekeeping.

Hi BGGAR. So you have a very big and unique review comparison coming up that we are all really looking forward to - MEST JP vs. MEST Int'l. I was wondering if, in addition to the usual untouched tuning analysis, you could try as best you can to EQ-match the Int'l to the JP so we can get as close to an 'apples-to-apples' comparison as possible to determine if the differences in the shell designs, bore-hole count, etc still have a noticeable impact on the sound signatures between the two units. You will no doubt have to bump the upper mids & treble on the Int'l and perhaps a little sub-bass too. I think it would be extremely interesting to determine how big an impact the shell designs have. I was planning on getting the CIEM Int'l MEST with the JP-tuned drivers installed (Musicteck Andrew said he could do this), but if the JP-MEST still beats out the Int'l-MEST that has been EQ-matched to the JP version, then I am just going to skip the CIEM Int'l-MEST and buy the JP-MEST instead. Thanks in advance if you are able to do this!

Linus is kinda trolling, one of his running joke is that he always use Modern Top Chart music to benchmark his High-end Gears, though he do care for high quality recording (he bought an LCD 2 with his own money and personally daily drive a hd600 and still do til this date). Donny Darko though always gave a certain vibe in his review that I don't really trust, kinda bias toward the thing he reviewing, to me he is kinda like Porta-fi if Prota-fi have higher production quality.

That shit exists in all hobbies. There are people who love their hobbies and there are those who just see it as status symbol. Money doesn't make you an audiophile, passion does.

The basic definition is preferring music you listen to be reproduced accurately. I come from 80s car audio, home audio, musician/guitar player. I love your view on bass. I knew was an audiophile in 6th grade when the high school band played for us. You could feel the bass drum, timpani, and even the snare. Accurate reproduction must have impactful bass. If you watch some of Steve Guttenberg's videos of viewer audio systems, you will see the crazy lengths people go for accurate bass. Thanks for the rec on the CCA-CA16. Not as much bass as the TRNV90, but they make music so fun to listen to.

This definitely fits with how I feel. I've never really understood the belief some people have that more expensive = better and if you don't agree then you're not really an audiophile. It's not really about the gear you own at the end of the day, as long as you get the type and quality of sound you want or expect from the gear you use. Some people might spend tons of time and money searching for just the right thing for them, but that doesn't make them any more of an audiophile than the person who's content with the cheap earbuds they can get from their local corner store. (Though, the person who's content with cheap corner store earbuds could have their mind blown by more up-market offerings and never be able to go back, and may eventually become one of those people spending too much time and money in search of better or different offerings...)

Yes I love this! You can be an audiophile, someone who loves sound with an mp3 player and a pair of Vidos but most associate the word with expensive gear. You know you've gone too far down the gear route when you spend more time looking at cables on aliexpress thinking "you are gorgeous!" than listening to music, and it's happened to me in the last year.

I was going to comment on the chi-fi redirecting money video the other day, the buying new stuff every 3 or 4 weeks is an addiction, just spend a few hours reading head-fi to see it. I quit drinking and that saved money went into the ultra budget IEM segment of this hobby, but I remember I sometimes had more fun watching music videos on YouTube and a set of skullcandy crushers (partly the drink) than what I'm doing now because I wasn't comparing the sound to anything.
There are worse ways to blow money though, I quit smoking for vaping and some vapers spend more on vape mods and tanks than they ever did on cigarettes.

I've got purple blons on the way, I'll get the Shuoer Tape because I have to hear that detail then I'm done for this year. Back to 🎶 🎵 🪕 🎼

For me it was an appreciation and love of music first, which then led to me wanting to hear said music better. In the 70's when I was a kid I would always listen to all my parents' records on their huge dresser style stereo cabinet. Horrible sound but I didn't care because I didn't know sound even got better than that. Got a little older and obtained a Walkman and some on ears in the early 80's and even found a little portable amp / graphic equalizer for them, which definitely improved the sound. Years later I invested in a set of the original Grado SR225's and that was a game changer. Those made me realize the true potential of cans. I actually still have that set as a reminder of what got me started in this hobby. Sort of an audiophile keepsake if you will. Anyway, thanks for the channel and keep up the fantastic work. Appreciated.

Whatever the gear, if the music i like sounds good, that it for me. We buy gears to listen to the music, we get better files to enjoy more but if you're stuck up obsessed about the gear or files all the while ignoring the music, that kinda person is lost. They've missed the point. I remember the first time listened to hotel California on a Diskman which my father got me from abroad. It had a decent pair of headphones (cheap by today's standards but way above the ones I've experienced from before). I was so stunned or awestruck by the hand drums (forgot the name) amd the separation of the instruments amd the details. It opened my ears to a whole new world which I could never leave. That was when i learned the difference a good gear could make. It helped me enjoy the music i like even more.
Even to this day i try to get the best value my measly budget affords me. Your reviews have helped me a lot in deciding what to purchase and what to ignore and judging by personal experience and what other reviews are saying most of the things you rec'd don't get put down by others and that says a lot about the quality of your work. Thanks for your no bs approach and don't stop keeping it real. 👍👍👍

I just want to add that character (not neutral) on headphones can be good too. Like flavours.

There's also this tech guy (snazzy labs) calls himself an "audiophile", he even puts the word "audiophile" on the title of his headphones/earbuds reviews

That's a perfect Description of an Audiophile. 100% agree!

A person who is enthusiastic about high fidelity (accurate to reality) and an audiophile are often different things, as most audiophiles will argue about things that don't make much difference and talk about how subjective it all is, when it's becoming less so, especially for speakers, if you want accuracy.

in my country, some part time job pays about the same price as the Blon BL-03,
average monthly income is around moondrop starfield.
saving for a mid tier iem is a dedication.
but in my opinion, if that makes you happy then do it,
it's your life, your happiness,

much love from Indonesia, ♥♥♥♥♥

I have got my hands on Michael Jackson's songs in Dsd quality. 680mb for dangerous song itself.

I have a question. I use normal android phone with no dac inside the phone nor do i have DAC AMP or DAP, I do have IEMs and Audio technica ath m50x, will my android phone really give me the most out of dsd file or is it waste of space?
