4K and a half hearted apology is a slap in the face to those brilliant women!

$4, 000 is horribly low for someone who could have been a doctor

Imagine how many people lost their lives because of incompetent doctors when they could have these women.

Their acceptance should've been based on their merit, not their sex. Nobody wants incompetent doctors to treat them.

They deserve the total cost of a Medical School education, and salary of years missed working as doctors, then emotional punitive damages!

I found an article about this that says this was happening since at least 2008 to 2018, but probably for even longer than that.
One of other major things was that this was done at the entry exams of multiple universities and applicants whose parents donated significant amounts of money to the universities were scored higher for the same answers that those who were female or the ones who allready failed the exam.
What is even more heartbreaking is to think about all the young people that "failed" their entry exams in a culture where they would be shamed as complete failures for it. 4000$ is not enough to pay for the lives ruined by this perception.

Stopping people who are qualified to save lives from doing so is sickening and those women deserve a lot more than just $4, 000

Ruining someones dream and compensating with 4k is diabolical

Someone should have been sent to prison for this kind of fraud and the university should have lost its licence. Who knows how many lives they ruined, both for the women who could have become doctors and the patients who were denied good healthcare?

That apology is such BS. They aren't sorry that they did it. They're just sorry they got caught.

$4, 000 is way too low to compensate for ruining someone’s career

An acquaintance of mine interviewed for the Monbukagakusho (Monbu) scholarship. She aspires to become a doctor. Shockingly, during the interview, one of the interviewers told her, 'What's the point? You're a woman. You should get married and have kids—that’s a woman’s duty.' It's disheartening to see such outdated views on gender roles still persist in Japan today. The issue of women's rights here remains a serious concern, and it's disheartening that this kind of mindset still exists in this era.

They say “They’ll quit after giving birth.” then wonder why our birthrate so low.

$4000 for being blatantly sexist and ruining so many woman’s dreams and future career is absolutely insane

I’m an old man, late seventies, I’ve had a female GP for last 15 years. Excellent diagnostic skills, she identified a carcinoma on my head ten years ago!
Yes I do have a scar! Doesn’t bother me or anyone else!😊

4000 only for a broken dream? This should be 4M paid by the hospital officers responsible for this evil.

4, 000 is a joke they should have all got their University fees refunded as well, in addition to lost wages for all the years they wasted in medical school.
As well as all the management and anyone who had anything to do with that decision fired.

Just $4000 in compensation for their wrong doing is not enough. Also passing men that had failed 3x is dangerous. They need to be held accountable.

The fact this was unknown and all those women put their hardwork into studying just to get kicked out 😢 not even mentioning the parents who were angry at their daughter 😭
