I think both moves are good and cool in their own way. But Mallow as a gigachad is one of the best things I've ever seen.

Fun fact: due to the plethora of enemies that either fly or are in some way related to water or something else that conducts electricity; there are several enemies that are weak to Lightning magic. This means that if you either just use Thunderbolt or use Frighten with Bowser first with the Zoom Shoes; you can just wipe out entire fields of enemies in one turn. It’s a good reason to actually keep Mallow around in the early to midgame even after you get Peach, who is better in most scenarios-and after Lazy Shell becomes an unkillable goddess who will carry your entire team.
