I like to think that due to being characters with time abilities, once they encounter a stressful situation, their minds go haywire for a split moment, like a digital clock that fell on the ground which changes the displayed time. This temporary disturbance results in several parts of their bodies to switch with other versions from every timeline there is, either in physical, mental, emotional and/or psychological. This causes their vocal pronunciation to go ballistic, thus causing that squealing gremlin sound, which is perfect speech in their own minds, but completely unknown and nonsensically adorable to us.
