nice, however could have simplified on step 3 where you had +1/3 and -1/3 cancel out ?

Let's assume we have i-1 in the denominator, then the first term i=1 becomes a not-a-number value, but the remaining 4 are defined numeric values. What is the sum of a series if one or more of its members are undefined?
