Tips for longarmers - 1. try to find someone in your area to physically meet with (it's less nerve-wracking than sending quilts through the mail). 2. Always be super explicit and specific about what you want including panto size, direction of pattern etc. 3. If you can, start with a test quilt (one you like, not your favorite thing ever with that speciality fabric) to see how you and the longarmer get along and how he/she does.

So glad you send our fabrics and patterns in plastic bags....the mailman left my last order in front of the garage and it started raining later in the day. My husband never saw it until the next morning goodness everything was in plastic bags because the box was saturated. One of the many reasons I love you guys...

My tip for beginners sending your quilt to the long armer. When I brought my quilt to the long armer, she was so impressed on how flat and pressed my quilt was. Also she commented on how clean the threads were trimmed. That really made her happy. She said she couldn’t find one untrimmed thread. That made me so proud of my work. ❤️🥰👍

Keep it local! Find a longarmer locally. No need to worry about the postal service damaging or losing your package ❤

WOW that a long list of “to Do’s” for your retreat… we all roll different 😊 as for me I go slow sew at retreat. I enjoy visiting and seeing what others are doing at retreat… I usually end up making something someone else is excited to show us. It’s like a mystery make 😅 AND I TAKE A NAP 🎉 and each day I take the time to walk with friends.

I have a wonderful “longarmer” near me that I always use for my larger quilts. She has won many, many awards/ribbons so I trust her ideas and skills. I quilt my smaller projects on my domestic machine. Thanks FQS and enjoy the retreat Kimberly!

Watching you sew this together took me back a ways. I’m in the UK, straight out of school at 16 I started working in a bedding factory. Started out making pillowcases, easy peasy. Graduated to putting the frills around the pillowcases. I did so well they had me sewing the frills onto valanced sheets, oh my days, the struggle was real 😂.

Watching this a couple days late, but I have to say, it's really a benefit to us when you have mistakes because you then teach us the fix. So don't be frustrated by your mistakes, think of it as a teaching moment.

I love that I have 3 local Longarmers that I work with regularly. One does intense beautiful custom work. One is my go to who mostly does her own overall, but is a good guide for me as far as color and design and the third doe’s edge to edge with pantograph. Knowing these quilters and trusting them is key for me.

Since I don’t like dense stitching like Kimberly does I always put in a note to remind them of what I like.

I just sent 3 quilts to a local long arm shop. I was so happy the people were very helpful and have me some good suggestions. I went with what they suggested and I could not be happier with the results. Thank You for everything you do to help us beginners out here. Stay safe.

I don't feel like I have a lot of good tips, but I do love project boards! I've only been using them for Bout a year but they are one of those aides that I'm like, "Where have you been all my life?". They really help keep me organized.

When sending your quilts to a longarmer: remember to indicate which edge you would like to see as the TOP on your pieced top and also on your backing by pinning a labeled sticky note or piece of paper to that edge. Love all the new fabric lines and you taking the time to show them. ❤

I have never used a longarm quilter. I am enjoying the whole quilting process on a domestic machine.

Kimberly I love that you use lots of lists and notebooks to organise. I too am a list maker and have lots of notebooks each for a different part of my life. As the saying goes; the shortest pencil is better than the longest memory. (Writing it down you can refer back to.) I wish you a productive retreat with lots of laughs and fun..😊

Great show. Love seeing all the new fabrics. You’ve given the best advice I could give. Make sure it’s all in a sealed plastic bag. It will save a lot of heartache. 🙂

My tips are: press well, fold and put in a plastic bag. If your front or back are directional, then I pin a note stating which is the top of the quilt. I always have 4-5 inches of fabric all around on the backing for the longarmer. I meet with longarmer when I drop quilt and pick out pantograph and thread color. Also, you need to let them know how dense you want your quilting.

Sandy is absolutely awesome in her designs. I got to meet her back in the 90s in Iowa. Such a humble person.
