There's actually some good news out of #Libya this spring. With peace on the horizon, it's a good time to reflect on what the #NATO intervention did to the #Sahel.

My somewhat jaundiced perspective on the new Libyan Unity Government comes from this piece by Wolfram Lacher:

I got the GDP per capita information from this handy tool. Pretty sure it's World Bank generated Data:

I'm North African and I have to repress my hatred to America & West everyday or else I'll get a heart attack from pure unadulterated rage.

Thanks for making this video. As a Libyan, I can speak for many Libyans when I say that the situation does look hopeful. War gets boring, and Libya was also in a proxy war which adds another layer of disinterest from Libyans themselves. And it shows when most of the combatants are mercenary foreigners. Wealthy and stable democratic Libya is the likeliest conclusion, and the world should pay more attention in the meantime for that to happen.

a bit of context on how much this war screwed over libya, in 2008 libya's GDP per capita was 75% higher than malaysia's. in 2014, it went down to less than half of malaysia's gdp per capita.

The worst thing about the Libya situation is that western educated Saif Qaddafi was in the process of taking over for his father and modernizing the country. Right now we could be talking about an African rising economic power instead of a failed state. History is not going to look favorably upon the US.

As always, amazing work analising from an objective point of view, realy made me understand much more the situation that the region is currently at, as an algerian, im realy hoping that the tunisian democracy holds on a bit more so at least it gives both Morroco and Algeria an example to follow .
Once again thank you for the video

Libya also aided the Sahel (Chad in particular) with industrial planning, education, healthcare, and critical infrastructure.

It was Qaddafi's way of cementing Libyan influence in the Sahel.
Riding Africa of France, permanently.

This is the best interpretation of what's going on...

Just like the proverb say: "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't Know" Gaddafi's was crazy dictator megalomaniac, But a dictator still better than the power vacuum war that tore the libya to parts

Have you ever read the work of David Keen, who talks about "war systems"? I think you would appreciate his analysis.

I got an idea I want to recommend.could making a mapping video in a style of Johnny Harris (youtuber) of all maghreb states on total wealth.total advantages and disadvantages to stability, growth, softpower and future potential of the region as a united superpower?how it can help develop itself and southern neighbours?or perhaps the European monopoly or softpower is too much to break the chains of capitalisman?is it a be first or be last kind of reality.just because they are industrialised and regulating protectionist policy?remember China only developed after US market allowed them in with cheap labor.

Please let me help you even out/produce your sound.

Whatifaltist has the same issue - lots of youtube historians I like do. But I actually think your videos are important so I'll do it for free. You need eq-ing to keep your narration consistent, compression to keep the volume consistent, and could use some intro/outro music and background music which we can have your narration sit over with some good ole sidechaining
