This video explores the abilities, powers, and origin of the Marvel Comics character "Cyclops." From Scott Summers being the oldest son of Christopher Summers aka Corsair, surviving a harrowing airplane escape from a Shi'ar Empire attack with his brother Alex Summers aka Havok, developing a mutant ability to produce powerful extra-dimensional Optic Blasts from his eyes, learning how to control his powers with the assistance of a specially made ruby-quartz visor, quickly becoming the well-qualified Deputy Leader of the X-Men after being invited to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, learning that he had a powerful villainous brother named Gabriel aka Vulcan, multiple relationships including the telepaths Jean Grey and Emma Frost, having a powerful mutant son with Madelyne Pryor named Nathan Summers aka Cable, constantly having bad blood with his teammate Wolverine, being a founding member of the X-Force and X-Factor teams, to his experience with the Phoenix Force as a part of the Phoenix Five and temporarily becoming Dark Phoenix; Let's take a look at this classic Marvel superhero, and consummate mutant leader of the Marvel Universe. This includes a short, canon character biography and my own opinionated "Sage Rating," which I use to give ratings of comic book and science fiction characters.

Thanks for covering a legendary character. Cyclops is definitely a 10 on your scale without him more than half of X-men story lines wouldn’t exist.

My favorite X men character but they’ve done him so wrong in the movies, cartoons, comics hell they’ve done him wrong in almost every form of media for comics

PERFECT RATING!!👍🏾👍🏾Cyclops is one of those characters that I like to refer to as a Blue-collar Superhero!! Mainly because he has only one Power set..So, He has to study, train, and basically outwork his overpowered counterparts!!

Cyclops will always be my favorite X-Man. Natural born leader, & one hell of a fighter. Remember when he beat Wolverine, in the 70s when they first encountered, Proteus, who had Logan in fear. It too Cyclops too beat him back too his former glorious self. First X-Man in the ranks.

Cyclops was always my favorite. I'll never forget reading astonishing x men and everyone getting owned by a damaged sentinel then Cyclops comes out and says something like "I want this thing off my lawn!" and just rips on it with a optic blast.

I loved that you did Cyclops. Honestly, he should be a 10. The movies do him NO justice either.

My middle name is Nathaniel like his son Cable (Nathan Summers). Scott is my favourite X-Man. It's a shame, he's being underused in the Fox X-Men universe. He should be having the Captain America treatment and leading the X-Men.

While my favorite X-men is a guy named Icarus, Cyclops is still on my top 10s list. It's really a shame how underrated he is. God bless Big Sage, great work as usual.

At first, Marvel made sunlight the "source" of Cykes' optic blast and usually runs out when he is held inside a darkroom too long, similar to Superman who absorbs solar energy to maintain and use his powers. In the episode "Captive Hearts" from the X-Men animated tv series of the '90s, Scott lost his powers when he and Jean Grey were captured by the Morlocks in the sewers for more than a day, he explained to Leech and Calisto that he cannot lead the Morlocks because he needs "Sunlight to fuel" his power. This scene briefly proved that Scott absorbs solar energy to convert concussive blasts released from his eyes, the same thing can be read from the ending credits of every episode from the 1st season as well as from his Ultra Fleer Card that was issued at that same time. I once read from the bullpen of an X-Men title that the optic blast is totally concussive with no radiation or heat. These were the best and the most logic explanation of how Scott's optic blast works in my opinion.

Until the new writers came in and said that the optic blast actually came from another dimension. I thought they had brain damage like Scott. I mean, if such being the case, then he doesn't need to absorb solar energy to use his eyes as portals to another dimension. Moreover, Marvel never actually elaborated from which dimension that causes the concussive force of the optic blast, is it a dimension or universe that only comprised of concussive energy?

I like Cyclops better than any other X-Men due to his complex characteristics, but Marvel have no love for the character. Case in point: X-Men: Evolution, Wolverine and the X-Men, AvX, Inhumans vs X-Men and Death of X.

SQUAD UP!

But I thought that was Nate Grey, LOL!
They don't really do Scott justice in the films and it's a shame too.

Always love this character. Wish he got a second power like being able to make an optic shield. Nice video.
