In today's video, I review Mario Hoops 3-on-3, and decide whether it's a Smash Hit, or if I should Trash It.

A little correction. This game does not have online play, only local multiplayer. Fortunately, that means you can technically still play this content today. With two game cards, you can play basketball against other people. With one card, you can play Dribble Race and Coin Hunter against 3 others. Coin Hunter is multiplayer exclusive. In this mode, everyone starts with 50 coins and you use items to take coins from them. If you lose all your coins, you're out. This mode is also played on unique courses not found in other modes.

thank you for making this video! i have so much nostalgia attached to this game and i often fondly look back to times ive been playing this game, and it makes me mad that its so underrated and unpopular! i would honestly love a remake or sequel for the switch.

Glad to see someone finally cover this game. It was one of my most beloved games during the time the DS Lite came out and I have since passed it down to my nephew because of his love for the game. :D

You've found yourself a new sub for two reasons: 1) You made a video on my favorite Mario Sports/DS game ever and are helping to expose people to it! 2) You implied Mario Kart 8's roster is full of filler characters. :D

In all seriousness, though, Mario Hoops was so good. Learning to play the game and tap the screen skillfully/deliberately was so satisfying to me, and I had a similar experience learning to use the motion controls with the wheel in Mario Kart Wii. I was not able to play this game against anyone except the AI or friends who didn't play the game nearly as much as I did; a part of me still hungers for a good challenge with someone else one day! Climbing the ladders against the AI was such a memorable experience, as was going toe-to-toe with the Final Fantasy Team (I'm still convinced Black Mage had the fastest "quick dunk" in the game). This game is one of the reasons why Mario Sports games really are consistently in the upper echelon of meaningful Mario content to me (well, they used to be, anyway).

I played this game on Wii U recently because of the eShop closure and I gotta say that it’s such a great game for Wii U! It just plays surprisingly well! It’s also very surreal! The game looks like a high quality PS1 game, with the best graphics of any Mario game on the DS, but it’s controlled by the touch screen! This might sound weird like a 2D DK game played with bongos, but it actually works extremely well! It’s not only novel, but seamless to play with once you get a hang of it! In that sense, it reminds me of something like Star Fox Zero! What I absolutely love about this game is that it requires a lot of fast thinking and strategy!

I genuinely don't understand how this game got such bad reception. This is easily one of my favorite most memorable DS game experiences of my childhood. Everything works perfectly, gameplay is smooth, tons of different and unique characters, lots of different courts that change up the gameplay.

Recently added the game back to my DS collection after having sold it as a kid. And it's still just as good and fun as I remembered the game.

Oh and I forgot. The Europese release name is the superior one. I never played 3 on 3 hoops, I played Slam Basketball!!!

Glad to see this game getting the love it deserves. Fun idea: although it absolutely will not happen, I'd love to see a new Mario Hoops 3 on 3 on the switch using the joycon instead of the touch screen. Having played the new switch sports game, I feel like the motion controls of the joycon are absolutely capable of doing the same thing as the stylus. It might not be as fast, but dribbling a basket ball has got to be the only obvious motion control gimmick I simply have not seen done yet.

I played that game, it was difficult to keep the ball bouncing the ground and make the special shots. If I could say a sentence to resume the game would be: "Spam the touch screen"

Used to play this a lot back in the day. It could be played with the buttons using the help button function (on). I didn't like the touch controls haha. I hope it makes a comeback in the switch or later consoles. Nice vid man!
